Enterbay had already done the movable eyes thing but with a joystick per eye to move independently. I think Hot Toys was just trying to he more clever and "out do" ,or as you say "over engineer", EB. Making it over complicated is what made those PERS systems break all the time. I remember when I got my DX08 I just deliberately broke it so I could move the eyes independently.lol I knew I'd never resell the figure anyway. Still have him and he's still my favorite. I know Buttmunch already answered but I figured I show you a pic of one of mine in hand. I've had quite a few DID figures with this stubble. I believe they called it flocking. It looks fantastic in hand. Id like to see HT or other companies do this as well. DID have been doing it for over a decade. I actually think they do certain things better than Hot Toys.

Yeah I'd be interested to learn how they do it. I wouldn't mind adding this effect to one of my Indys...

Hat is bonkers.

Eyes I'm not worried about. All these pics are dark lighting. So it's going to enhance any issues. My figure is going in a well lit Detolf so won't know for 100% certainty till it's in hand and under the lighting I'm using.

So far other pictures have been brilliant. This photographer needs to learn to futz better

Damn, was hoping they would have fixed the short robes for this version but it looks like they are still swinging around his ankles sadly.

Some pics it looks good, others it looks pretty bad. Definite Thunderbirds/Team America vibes on that head.

Seems like holding onto my pre-order is the smart move, even if I don't like it in-hand, I'll be able to flip it to someone else who does.

That hat is pathetic. I hope Asmus will consider offering replacements. It's really a stain on an otherwise beautiful figure.

I really don't think the eyes are as bad as the rest of you to be honest. The moveable eyes are the most unnecessary feature imaginable for a sixth scale figure in my opinion. But I really don't think they look as bad as people are making them out to be in these photos.

Yeah, the hat is bizarre, but I'm not worried as I wasn't planning on using it. The eyes ... honestly I can't see anything wrong with them. I think they look great. The beard could use some futzing (fanning it out in a circular shape isn't really how beards work), but otherwise this figure looks amazing to me. Very much looking forward to getting him in hand!

Curious about the book accessory.

(Kudos to the photographer on some of the additional set dressing, too. I love those scrolls.)

Those of you criticizing the eyes, have you really looked at photos of Ian McKellen in costume lately? The actor has predominant folds over his eyes already and in makeup his eyelids look pretty puffy. I think the zoomed in photo above does more to show that they look really good than it does to detract from them.

Edit: I guess I cant post images or links...

This looks like a fine figure and I have it on order but definitely not the greatest sixth scale figure ever mass produced or is asmus ready to make a run at hot toys based on their body of work regardless of how I feel about the glut of marvel and Star Wars. The hyperbole in regards to a figure nobody has in hand is interesting. I blame COVID.

I can deal with the eyes but that hat is so bad. It doesn't even look like it belongs with the rest of the outfit, which is tailored nicely.

I hope someone does a custom run of a good hat for this figure because it really needs it.

The hat is my only real gripe with this but I guess I’m displaying without it if this is how it’s going to look

Those of you defending the eyes, have you ever seen a real human being before?

They look horrible to me, unnatural.

I will try to modify the hat to fit better, but I'd be up for a custom run as well, preferably sculpted to get the fine details and wrinkles right.

Have you ever seen Ian McKellen?

Go look up photos of him, you'll see plenty where his eyes look black and unnatural due to the thickness/shape of his eyelids. Unless there is adequate fill light on his eyes or he is outdoors with strong ambient light that's just kind of how he looks.

I still think it looks great overall, save for that hat as everyone else is saying. While I wish it was better out of the box, I honestly expect it to be a pretty easy fix. I think I will end up taking out the stitching for the cover on the underside so it can sit lower, then I'll be putting tinfoil into the hat so I can get the right shape.

I think the size of it is close enough, it just needs to be reshaped and sit lower.

Now you are definitely entitled to your opinion. And we don't agree. But man I just had a good laugh. Screenshot_20210218-125722_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20210218-125658_Gallery.jpg

And the proto captured all that perfectly. The production piece, not so much, at least from all the pics I've seen so far. But of course we'll see how it looks in hand...

I have yes, and his eyes still don't look like this figure. It'd look much better if they just didn't bother with the rolling eyeballs feature.

If you're gonna try and change my mind, don't use pictures that just solidfy my opinion.

Yep, the prototype looks almost perfect, this does not.
