Here are images of the final cloth on the horse. It appears to be made from rather cheap see-through black material that I could probably buy for 10 cents a foot at Joanne Fabrics. And the cut pattern is rather unsophisticated compared to the tattered prototype.

First up, the prototype promo image:

And the final production piece in hand:

Well, folks have said more than once, they really want stuff looking great out of the box. And maybe the fabric is "cheap" but on the other hand, cheap, thin fabric 1) keeps the bulk down so you don't end up w. a fat looking MOS and 2) easy to shred the edges. Just lay down on a hard surface you can scratch on - even poster board, get a pin or a nail or something, and start yanking at threads all along the edge. I can see why ASMUS saved some production costs because every cloak would have to be hand shredded along the edge.

I mean, for me, if the face, horse, armor, etc. is great and sturdy, I'm happy to do a little futzing. It's not like that pic of a Indiana Jones figure I saw $$$ where the rather nice iconic jacket had been made of pleather and was splitting and peeling. THAT would upset me, because I don't even know how you begin to fix something like that *meh*.

Yeah, as faults go, I'm okay with this. I'm sure I've got a raggedy old black t-shirt (or twelve) that I could chop up for a quick and easy replacement.

Futzing is one thing, but since this was not marketed as a model kit I'd feel like I'd be finishing Asmus' job for them. The Asmus Morgul Lord at least has frayed edges, not clean cut like this.

I agree with you 100% they should have done a better job of matching the prototype but I still think for the price were paying ,it's a really solid deal . The headscuplt looks absolutely incredible and so does the armor . If they had cut corners there , I would definitely be dropping out on this .

Yes. But The Nazgul Steed was more or less the same. I have to take a scissor to it, just some fast snips and all good in about 30 seconds.

Water treatment will do wonders.

Cool, though if it's 30 seconds of work, Asmus really should have done it! I prefer not to make irreversible alterations, but if I can remove the cloth without ruining anything, maybe I can trace it onto new material and make a whole new one.

Ok , it's official . This guy is mine . Just got this from SSC . Pick up some reward points as well . Looking forward to checking this out and setting him up .

Just got this in today. This is my first Asmus figure, so here's some of my quick inital thoughts.

Overall I'm really impressed with this guy. My only complaint is that there's a lot going on with the horse so it took a good amount of futzing to get it to look right. That's not a big deal. The body is a lot sturdier than I thought it was going to be. No flimsy joints at all. It pretty much feels like a Hot Toys quality body to me. The sculpting is awesome all around, especially on the head. The helmet sculpt is perfect and the mouth sculpts are really good. This is a great addition to my collection. Definitely getting Gandalf the Grey now, and hoping to see many more LOTR figures from them in the future.

That's very good news about the body and head sculpt . Thanks . Still waiting for SSC to ship mine out . Hurry up sideshow !!
