About ten years ago, French company Plastoy started a new line of polystone figurines based on the comicbookseries The adventures of Asterix, by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. From what I understand from my local comicbook dealer, you could order these figures from Plastoy directly with some sort of subscription. They were released over a period of 2 or 3 years, I think.

All in all, there are 70 figures (about 5 inches in height, give or take) and 15 "specials". The "specials" are the same scale as the regular figures, but depict an event from the comicbooks and are therefor bigger than the regular figures. They came on blistercards, but these days it's very hard to find them in the original packaging. You can find these figures on eBay here in Europe for about 5 to 20 euros ($6.5 to $26) per figure, but the "specials" can cost quite a bit more. All figures are sold separately, except Obelix and his trusted companio Dogmatix.

They were re-released for the German market, where they had translated the names on the bases to German. So if you decide to collect these, then you might see some variants in the names. Oh, and please note that Plastoy has also released several plastic Asterix figures, but they are really cheap plastic and don't look this good.

My personal collection is far from complete. I have about 25 of them, and a 4 of the "special" sets. I'll post some pictures in this thread.
All in all I think this series is great. They managed to capture the look and feel of the comicbooks perfectly.

Everyone who's into these kind of figures should have the basic three: Asterix, Obelix and Idéfix (Dogmatix in English).

The village leader Abraracourcix and his wife Bonemine (Vitalstatistix and Impedimenta in English).

This is one of the few figures where the base is a bit different. Abraracourcix (Vitalstatistix) is shown on his shield. In the comicbook, he is often carried on his shield by his minions.

The village druid Panoramix (Getafix in english) and his cauldron of magic potion, with fellow druid Amnesix (Psychoanalytix in English, from Asterix And The Big Fight).
I think the cauldron is sold separately from Panoramix.

my best bet is to search on eBay, but then use the international search. Seach for "Plastoy Asterix" and you can find some. But as I said above, they also made plastic figures which aren't as good.

The polystone figures all have a small base with the name on them.

The village bard Assurancetourix (Cacofonix) and Amérix (Metallurgix), nephew of Obelix (from Asterix and the Golden Sickle).

Cetautomatix (Fulliautomatix in English), the village blacksmith, and Ordralfabétix (Unhygienix in English), the fish salesman. They usually fight about Ordralfabétix selling rotten fish. I now realise that I should have put the bard in this picture too, since he's usually being beaten up by the smith.

Cleopatra can be removed from the chair. She is also one of the few figures with a glossy finish.

Gelatine (Vanilla in English), Obelix' mother (from Asterix and the Actress), and madame Agecanonix (Mrs. Geriatrix in English), the beautiful wife of town elder Agecanonix (Geriatrix).

A special set of village leader Abraracourcix and his wife Bonemine (Vitalstatistix and Impedimenta in English). These are sold as a set, in which you can see who really wears the pants in that house. Classic!

One of the biggest of the "specials" is this set of Asterix and Obelix on a horsecarriage.

This whole set is about 12 inch long, and made from polystone with real rope. Yes, unfortunately that’s real rope, so it’s way too thick. But besides the thickness, I like that they added it.

The wheels actually work, but you have to be really careful with this set because Asterix and Obelix can be removed. With Asterix that isn’t much of a problem, he sits quite stirdy on the front (there’s a peg up his butt which holds him in place). Obelix is a different story. He also has a peg up his behind, but he still falls backwards quite easily. And since he’s made of polystone, he can break. With mine, some pains has come off his belt after he fell off the wagon.

Another "special" set is this classic scene where Asterix hits a Roman soldier, who then goes flying through the air.
