Live Action Astro Boy Movie In Development | Comicbook.com

Astro Boy is coming to theaters as a live-action feature film as the result of a partnership between Australia’s Animal Logic Entertainment has partnered with Japan’s Tezuka Productions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rather than pandering to kids, as most iterations of the character have done, producers hope to make it a broadly-appealing (and likely PG-13) movie.

“We’ve seen his as a manga, an anime and an animated movie but we’ve never seen him as a live action movie or him as a superhero,” said Animal Logic's Zach Nalbandian. “We actually see him in the same league as an Iron Man.”

Didnt we just make an astro boy movie that was like cgi years ago. People forgot about it

As long as they adhere to the "not pandering to kids" ideal I think this could be great. It was one of the things I really appreciate from the 80's cartoon. They dealt with death, morals, racism in ways that really affected me in a positive way and still remember to this day. Pulling it off in live action will certainly be a tough balancing act though.

Good luck to them Astroboy needs a great movie. I can't wait to see more.

Yeah the original cartoon was great, I loved it growing up.

As Ondi says, it covered a lot of ground in it's day, so this could be cool.

Never saw that CG movie.

The only good things about the previous movie were the 2 Astro Boy figures from hot toys. Apart from that it wasn't a movie befitting a comics character with a legendary status on a par with Mickey Mouse, Superman and Tintin...

The CGI movie was better than his last cartoon outing I think. I really hated how his arm turned into a mega canon or whatever and they continually harped on about him getting stronger and stronger. Yes Astro is strong but his kindness/protection of innocents always took precendence over everything else.
