From what I understand ( someone one please correct me if I am wrong) the first thing you want to do is wash the head in soapy water. This will remove a thin flim that is sprayed onto the figures and make it easier to paint. Depending on the type of repaint you want to do you may need to coat it with some primer. I would do a test on another less important figure if you can or make cast your current head and paint that. Unless you are not worried about ruining your current head ( if it does not turn out the way you hoped)

As long as you use good acrylics you won't ruin the head. They can be washed off as long they don't dry. One of the best ways to paint skin tone is to use a dark base coat like a tan or orange color then dry brush a lighter more natural skin color over it. You may need to do several coats with a variety of shades depending on how realistic you want it to look.

I've noticed the neck on my Hot Toys Iron Man Mark III has started to fade. I'm thinking of doing a repaint of the figure to fix the fading, and to get the red a more accurate color. I've never done a repaint, though, so I'm not sure where to begin. Does anyone have recommendations for paint or brushes to use to get a consistent metallic red look? Also is there way to disassemble this figure to make it easier to paint without running the risk of damaging it?
Does anyone know how Hot Toys is able to get the skin texture on their recent 12" figures? I am very interested to know what technique was used to gain such a realistic skin texture on such a small scale .I know how to do it with a 1:1 life size sculpt just not on a 12" figure.

I would use an airbrush, give it a primer coat and probably use humbroll paint, but if you don't have an airbrush a spraycan will do the job too. Ofcourse disable the figure and mask off the parts you don't want to paint!

Just received my SSC Phase 1 all white Clone Trooper. I am planning on adding weathering with pastel dust and a brush and then sealing it with Testor's dullcoat. Anyone know how to get all of the abdomen armor off without breaking it?

Was thinking of painting an extra Bib fortuna to make a Jedi or bounty hunter custom. I wanted to maybe do yellow or a light green.

I have used diluted acrylic paint to change the color of fabric before, but that was because I wanted a very specific color. Black is easy

I could be wrong but I don't think you can dye fabric white and if you could, the threads at the seams won't take the dye if they're synthetic. You could use RIT color remover but that would probably just change the color, not remove it like you want.
I think you're always better off in the long run dyeing clothing over painting it when you have the choice. You can't always get the color to be exactly how you want it but it's usually a better way to go, as I understand it. RIT dyes are pretty simple to use too. (Their color remover, not so much.)
