Hate those kinds of articles...
Bettany in fact says no such thing, it's all plausible conjecture on the authors part.

I don't have much hope for Cap's action scenes in this movie, but Civil War will probably be the greatest action film of all time. Shaky cam aside, the Russos do action way better than Whedon, in fact they do everything better than Whedon.

This.

I hope Whedon takes a page out of the Russo's and gives him the same fighting style. I was somewhat underwhelmed with Cap in the original Avengers but he shined in TWS.

Whedon is strange. He's solid in some fields of film but weak in others. Never been too impressed by his camerawork and his dialogue is too "comic-booky" at times.

Cap's costume has been great in every movie in my opinion. All of the photos people like to use to try and make the suit from The Avengers look silly are just static on-set photos. Truth is, on screen throughout the movie, The Avengers suit looks fine.
:lol :lol :lol

Yeah the fights with The Winter Soldier on the street and the escape from the Triskellion were down right epic.... best Cap action so far

The Batroc fight was pretty sick too. Actually, the whole scene on that ship was awesome.

I think I need to watch this movie again tonight!

I see a lot of anti-Whedon sentiment these days. Starting to think he's maybe a bit underappreciated. Avengers was a huge movie. It brought a lot of attention to what Marvel are doing, no?

Joss did a great job but his take on Capt America was disappointing. Caps abilities are tough to dial in and show in a nerd pleasing way, so a big thanks to the Russos for showing the way (and bringing back the chin strap.) Now they need to take over Thor.

I pay no attention to the armchair directors.

Whedon is a good director IMO and my opinion is the only one that matters to me. :lecture

It also bugged me that Cap was undervalued in the Avengers, I don't hold it against him preferring the weirdos on the team. That's a running theme with his work. I have watched Firefly, and lots of Buffy, and definitely appreciate what Whedon brings to the table. There are directors I like better, but he's damn good, and I'll take him any day over a guy like Zach Snyder.

Avengers is my only exposure to Whedon, and I thought the way he handled the final battle was brilliant, too often ensemble movies fail to give characters a balanced screen presence but I thought everyone had their time to shine and it never felt like too much of one or the other.

Was Cap even undervalued in Avengers? I mean I came to rather like Evans in the role after seeing that film, which in turn made me look back at the first Cap movie and appreciate that more. Cap was the first of the Avengers to take on Loki and I loved that scene, it was goosebumps for me.

I thought so. He is ostensibly the leader when they fight in the city, he first encounters Loki, but who ended the fight with Loki? Iron Man, saving Cap's butt. Who ended up always winning the arguments and showing that he was more insightful and wise? Iron Man. Who saved the day at the end? Iron Man.

Admittedly, this has seemingly changed with Iron Man seeming more flawed than ever after IM 3, and Cap showing that he's an awesome badass mother ****er in Winter Soldier, themes that will probably be further highlighted in Avengers 2 and Cap 3, as Iron Man looks more and more like the ********* responsible for everyone woes. But at the time it very clearly felt to me that Cap drew the short straw in that movie.
