Whedon's one of the most self-deprecating personalities in Hollywood. It's sad how desperate people are to berate him because his talent isn't to their taste.
I don't know that I've had enough exposure to his work to gauge that. I enjoyed Stardust, but it was (appropriately) more like a Neil Gamain comic than anything traditional from the Big 2. And I really like First Class, but not Kick Ass. I haven't seen his new movie yet. I'm not sure he has a standard MO when it comes to handling comicy movies. He seems to adjust his style to the source material.Matthew Vaughn brings the best of both worlds in my opinion. First Class wasn't perfect but it balanced the humor and drama perfectly.
A lot of the "nerd sites" like AICN are thrashing it quite a bit.Not sure where you're getting that idea but when I google "Age of Ultron" a lot of stories about Whedon's bitching and moaning come up. I think he is causing the most rancor by whining about Disney making him do this or that. And I'm sorry Joss, but having Captain Marvel and Spider-Man appear out of the blue when Cap addresses the new team is BEYOND stupid. You should have kept your mouth shut on that because Disney did you a big favor by vetoing that. Now instead of Joss being the director of a somewhat flawed thrill ride he comes across as a big baby that the studio WISELY kept in check. I'm SO glad that he'll be gone from here on out.
But like so many things on the internet Whedon's bitching gives the aroma of blood in the water and the sharks are being drawn in.
You guys are gonna make Khev seek therapy ripping on what he considers to be the greatest film of this, or any other era.
TWS. . .even surpasses Raiders.
TWS has incredibly bombastic action and is indeed a great Cap movie!

Whedon is...perfect. Brian Singer...for example has...weaknesses.
I need to watch WS again, I get some people thinking it really good and all, but from the one time I watched it, I would never consider it a classic like any of those movies, those movies stand out for very unique qualities, WS to me is just another good movie in a genre, nothing new or redefining.
TWS absolutely is worthy to mentioned in the same breath as Raiders and Empire, at the very LEAST on its merits as an action film. In that regard I would say that it even surpasses Raiders. And before anyone freaks out about that think about how each film climaxes. The carriers, the multiple showdowns, "I'm with you to the end of the line," all that I find to be more exciting and satisfying than the opening of the ark. The ark scene is classic and iconic but in kind of a weird "Superman turns back time" kind of way.

Oh I know a million internet demerits for comparing anything favorably to Raiders but I stand by my opinion.
