TWS has incredibly bombastic action and is indeed a great Cap movie!

Is it a Raiders or Empire, mmmmm, no, but it's still a great Cap movie!

Not Crap movie, Cap movie dammit!

Yea, Winter Soldier is in my top 3 from Marvel so far. I still think Iron Man 1 is unmatched.

Tough crowd for this film. I finally saw AOU last night and loved it! I am not a Marvel fanboy and thus do not hold the characters as dear to me as I do DC characters. But I love the Marvel cinematic universe and felt AOU hit all the right notes on action, humor, and acting from all the major characters. Chris Evans really hit this movie for me. He truly embodies the leadership/charisma that is required of Captain America. His performance along with Spader's as Ultron really stood out to raise the quality to another level. I do wish we could have spent more time with Ultron. He just never felt like the threat I was expecting. That said his wake up scene with Jarvis was amazingly well handled. And his tantrum being compared to Stark was also a highlight for me.

Is this as good as Avengers? Probably not but that had the element of surprise as I did not think a film could handle so many characters so well and the Hulk was the big surprise of that film. Plus it had a better threat with Loki. But AOU is as entertaining as any Marvel film and I also enjoyed the quieter moments between characters. I guess I just don't over think Marvel films and am just there to be entertained. And Whedon with his cast of terrific actors entertained me for 2 hours so that's all that I ask. I would give AOU a 7.5 out of 10.

You guys are gonna make Khev seek therapy ripping on what he considers to be the greatest film of this, or any other era.

Matthew Vaughn brings the best of both worlds in my opinion. First Class wasn't perfect but it balanced the humor and drama perfectly.
I don't know that I've had enough exposure to his work to gauge that. I enjoyed Stardust, but it was (appropriately) more like a Neil Gamain comic than anything traditional from the Big 2. And I really like First Class, but not Kick Ass. I haven't seen his new movie yet. I'm not sure he has a standard MO when it comes to handling comicy movies. He seems to adjust his style to the source material.

TWS absolutely is worthy to mentioned in the same breath as Raiders and Empire, at the very LEAST on its merits as an action film. In that regard I would say that it even surpasses Raiders. And before anyone freaks out about that think about how each film climaxes. The carriers, the multiple showdowns, "I'm with you to the end of the line," all that I find to be more exciting and satisfying than the opening of the ark. The ark scene is classic and iconic but in kind of a weird "Superman turns back time" kind of way.

Not sure where you're getting that idea but when I google "Age of Ultron" a lot of stories about Whedon's bitching and moaning come up. I think he is causing the most rancor by whining about Disney making him do this or that. And I'm sorry Joss, but having Captain Marvel and Spider-Man appear out of the blue when Cap addresses the new team is BEYOND stupid. You should have kept your mouth shut on that because Disney did you a big favor by vetoing that. Now instead of Joss being the director of a somewhat flawed thrill ride he comes across as a big baby that the studio WISELY kept in check. I'm SO glad that he'll be gone from here on out.

But like so many things on the internet Whedon's bitching gives the aroma of blood in the water and the sharks are being drawn in.
A lot of the "nerd sites" like AICN are thrashing it quite a bit.

Yes, Whedon should have kept his mouth shut this time I think. He's obviously pissed from a creative standpoint, I get that. It's a very hard situation to be in, he is probably very aware of his peers in the industry and their impression of his movie and wants to distance himself from the elements he feels don't work?
I do get that. But what he is doing is opening the floodgates for people to start picking apart the movie.
I had a great time watching AOU. That's all I can ask or expect of a movie like this.

:lol

For whatever it's worth (I'm gonna go with jack diddly) I was more amazed by Boyhood than TWS last year and I found Ex Machina to be far superior to AoU.

But for my geeky fanboy mind yeah I'd probably put TWS in my personal Top 5 (or at worst 10) of all time.

TWS. . .even surpasses Raiders.

I think TFA is only about an extra half hour away from being a fantastic film - the second half is too rushed. But it's still a solid film to me as is.

I loved Stardust, and I thought Kick Ass was pretty good, it was pretty faithful to the comic too. Secret Service was really good, but I'll agree he seems to have one kind of style and he adjusts the source material to it.

I need to watch WS again, I get some people thinking it really good and all, but from the one time I watched it, I would never consider it a classic like any of those movies, those movies stand out for very unique qualities, WS to me is just another good movie in a genre, nothing new or redefining.

Nick Fury car chase, Cap and WS knife fight and Cap elevator fight are all better then anything in AOU.

TWS absolutely is worthy to mentioned in the same breath as Raiders and Empire, at the very LEAST on its merits as an action film. In that regard I would say that it even surpasses Raiders. And before anyone freaks out about that think about how each film climaxes. I actually find the ending of TWS to be it's weakest point.. The action was not as fluid and fast moving as the other scenes.. Or just not as good.. I am not sure. Nothing about it stands out except for the worst part of the film.. Falcon diving out the window and into fury's Helicopter. Goofy and looked bad.

Now having said that.. TWS is not on the same level as Raiders... I only say that because I don't see watching TWS as many times as I have Raiders.. Not even close.. But it's a great film.. But Raiders is filled with so many Iconic scenes.. The ending was perfect IMO... Nazi's should not mess with God :)

One could say that TWS is a technically better action film since it has the benefit of more modern fight chorography and FX but I just can't put it up there with Raiders... Especially because the ending loses steam... Perhaps when I see it for the 75th time and I still am enjoying it I will compare it with Raiders... But I don't think it will make it.
