Really want a full-fledged sculpture of this ever since I saw it in the credits...

Yeah, very cool. It'd be way cheaper to make one than buy it though. :lol

I just watched AoU for the first time...

...and even though there were some good moments, I left the theater thinking about how I felt after the first Avengers film and how AoU doesn't even come close. There was just too much going on with too many characters. Despite having watched every MCU movie to date I felt almost no connection to any of them for some reason. It was like watching a really long trailer for the actual movie complete with every action scene and witty remark.

Ultron sucked plain and simple. The sense of humor was very out of place and I know that it was used because of the Stark connection but it killed any hope of him being menacing. The way he appeared in the trailers is how he should have been in the film with the whole "no strings on me" line. And what was up with his voice? They didn't even attempt to make James Spader's voice more mechanical or synthesized. The worst villain in any of the films so far.

Hawkeye has a family? Alright but what did that have to do with anything!? You also have to question why someone would bring a group of people like the Avengers, especially Banner, to your home? There are a million ways something could happen to the people you love most if this were a real-life situation. In my opinion the family scenes were just a way to give Hawkeye screen time.

I was really disappointed with Quicksilver after seeing him in DOFP. It's like they just decided to give up on the character in AoU because they knew they could never match the awesomeness.

Cap and his shield were the two best things about this movie.

@therealjustin: My issues with the film are more to do with the pacing and scenario-writing. Beyond that, I highly disagree with a number of your points more or less. Don't want to elaborate on it as I've already said my piece a couple of times here and in the AOU movie thread though. :lecture

Anyway, the following link was shared by third3ye in the movie thread, which I felt had provided a pretty interesting insight/analysis on a number of the character arcs that came into play in AOU:

Earth’s Mightiest Monsters: The Character Arcs Of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON | Birth.Movies.Death.

In general, I think it would be very difficult to replicate the feeling I had coming out of the first Avengers film. There is just something about being able to bring together so many superheroes in such a compelling way that can probably not be duplicated. I suspect Whedon thought about that and decided to not try for a "rinse-and-repeat" of the first movie. I give him credit for taking risks with this new film.

I've only seen AoU once, but having reflected on it, I see this as a film that will get better with each viewing. Admittedly, part of that feeling is due to the crazy pacing of this film; I feel like I missed half of it the first time around.

I definitely enjoyed it, however. Can't wait to see it again.

AOU is a film that, while very messy and most definitely not perfect, was pretty jam-packed with a lot more interesting ideas.

I'd take that over the first Avengers film which felt more or less like a crowd-pleaser. :lecture

Something about AOU makes it more awesome the more I see it. I had a few gripes my first viewing but I just want to watch it again and again now.

It's definitely a film that I need to see multiple times to enjoy whereas after the first one, I was ready to die because it was so great :lol

To me if you remove the novelty factor of the first Avengers film it's just no contest that AoU is the superior viewing experience. Superior action, more frequent humor, cooler character arcs.

I just think that there's too much humor in the film, maybe it's there to drive non-marvel viewers?

I'm glad that team was together at the beginning of AOU. My biggest problem with The Avengers was that it started off as a SHIELD movie and we had to wait for the team to form ... and then it was over. But of course the novelty wins out because that type of movie has never been done before.

I was skeptical going into AOU because I didn't think they'd properly explain them reassembling, but it was handled well. I loved jumping right into the Hydra fortress invasion.
