I recall they were still showing Avatar in cinimas as late as August 2010. That's a heck of a long time.

Saying that, Avatar 2 won't make anywhere close. The brand almost has no pop culture relevancy outside of being that film with the blue alien people that made the most money. Ask 100 random people to name 3 characters from it without Google and you'll get blank stares from most. :lol

Heck if Avatar 2 beats IW earnings, I'll be crows' waifu and wear a dress and wig. You heard it. :lecture

I didn't like Avatar. I don't get the appeal.

Yeah there’s really no big mystery why Avatar made 2.8 B.

Technology timing (full mocap and 3D) + Cameron still had a great reputation at that time

you had to be there for the hype and the special effects

I saw it in 3D here, but we only had "Lie"Max. I understood the hype back then (it was a technological achievement) but story-wise it wasn't anything special.

I don't know if anything can beat that in the near future (especially with less theater goers overall) especially when you consider inflation.

No. It would still be a big cartoon. I didn't hate it, but I didn't get hype either. And the hype wasn't everyone going to iMax.

But to each his own.

Amazing that a BIG CARTOON is still the biggest movie of all time at the Box Office tho ;)

Wait wut

The technology hype was HUGE for that movie like huge huge!

You HAD to see it in Imax 3D or your life was meaningless!

If you didn’t bring your family your children to see Avatar in IMAX 3-D your kids would be labeled a bunch of losers at school lol

Poor ironwez he had to beg his parents to not be left out of the cool kids group.

Just for full disclosure that last part is all conjecture on my part lol

I mean,bro you asked why
I just told u why. It was the most advanced movie at the time. The imax 3D made it feel like a real alien planet documentary. It was more realistic tgan any disney park ride

how can we help it reach 2 billion guys?

jye? khev? trash panda? snoop? can you guys go watch it 14 more times? i mean, you guys love repeat viewings right?

Two viewings was enough for me. I greatly enjoyed it but would still put it third for the year so far.

I attribute Avatar’s success not to the film’s quality but to the fact it was an experience. No movie before or since, IMO, has used 3D so effectively to make you feel like you are literally standing in every scene, you didn’t go to it to watch it, you went to be part of it, and that makes it very unique. I love Infinity War, and I think it’s a really good movie, but it’s just another really good movie in a large body of good movies in the history of film and it’s uniqueness is limited to the merging of so many prior stories, which is unique in film but not necessarily TV so it still doesn’t have anything to make it as one of a kind as Avatar was.

Phhht 2 viewings was plenty for me don't think this was Russos best, no matter how much money it makes. Stuff I like, and stuff that just irritates. For me the BR will be better so I can forward through the annoying bits.
