I have to be honest...

When I first saw this gif, I didn't see the bell. LOL!

I prefer liquid masking and using a toothbrush to apply... I tried that salt.. not a fan of that

A flick, splatter method for applying the masking fluid?

Interesting. Never thought of that before now.

The vid Kamandi posted above makes the salt technique seem a lot more successful than another vid I watched where the user was chipping the red banners on an x-wing. The salt not only masked the areas it was applied, but it also partly contaminated the immediately adjacent paint, which to me gave it a sloppy look. The VW above also had the benefit of a more prominent underlying color rather than just the bare white plastic or primer on the x-wing.

Toothbrush or toothpick....??

The idea of using a toothbrush for masking fluid seems reaaaaally weird to me.

You can.

But if the viscosity of the fluid allows it, flicking it might give it that randomness (and scale?) that I would think would be harder to achieve with a more direct application.

At least it might be worth a shot.

I'll have to put masking fluid on the shopping list.
Right under the silly putty that I keep forgetting.

I can't see there being enough latex to be rubbed off under the layer of paint you just put down. I've put down small blobs of it and had a difficult time finding all of them to pick off. I can just imagine the myriad microscopic particles of it a toothbrush would create.

FYI - There are modelers who use Ketchup or mustard instead of latex. They're easily seen and water soluble.

Another salt technique vid. I'll likely use some of the foam mask airbrushing and a bit of salt for the red markings.

Roughly translated build pages from Bandai.

I haven't gone through every step yet, but I've already found a few points that qualify as a good "heads up" .

Also, someone on RPF posted another promotional video from Bandai for their SW line. There is one shot in there where one of the crew is looking over/admiring the larger Star Destroyer (which looks to be about 1.5 times the size of the Zvesda/Revell.
There is a disclaimer on the shot that it's a prototype pending official approval.

As someone who is anticipating that kit as much or more than any other, I see it as an optimistic indication that this may still arrive at some point. Maybe in 2018 this will be Bandai's big PG release like the MF was in 2017.

The Millennium Falcon PG is getting a second issue, a non-collector's edition, and it will cost significantly less. It sounds like it will be in the $250 USD range. RPF is speculating will not include the lights, waterslide decals or photoetch (based on Gundam PG vs 2nd editions).

Knowing this I would be inclined to wait for the 2nd edition on the Star Destroyer when it happens. I desperately want one but I'll be a bit smarter in how I buy that kit.

Yeah, the SD is a monster of a model. Gorgeous!

BBTS has it for $350. No lights and stickers.
