I got mine last night.
I pulled it out of the MASSIVE box and checked it out. Everything looked fine. I counted six packets of desiccant pack in with the bust. No moisture beeding up or anything like that. All the paint was fine. No quality control problems this time around.
It's really full sized. I'm 6'3" and have a big head and Batman's head was the same size as mine. They eyes don't look as off as the do in the online pictures. The jaw is better looking in person too. Overall, it's very very nice, but very very big. I have no place to display it, so it went back in the box.
The paint application looked pretty good. There were some minor issues along the edges of the bat symbol and around the edges where black met gray and so on. But nothing that would be visible from over a few inches away.
The sculpture was very good as well. The grimace or whatever expression he has isn't quite as intense as the online pictures which for me is a good thing.
He's got that flat forehead to nose thing going on which I'm not too fond of, but that's only really visible from side views and is a stylistic choice. His nose under the cowl doesn't seem to be fully sculpted and the flesh part sort of blends in to the pointed cowl which when combined with the nostrils gives him a Jabba the Hut kind of feel. But that's not something anyone is going to see unless they look right up under the nostrils.
There was a tiny bit of a wobble to it when I had it sitting on our dining room table. I'd suggest displaying it with some earthquake putty to give it some stability. It probably doesn't need it, but it would make me feel a bit more secure about displaying it.
Overall, I'm very happy with it. The size of the bust is something that doesn't come across in pictures with apples in them or even compared to PF statues and the like. You really have to have it in front of you to understand it. At least I did.
All that said, I like the DCD 1:2 bust more. I like the choices they made in the style of the cowl more and the overall quality and craftsmanship of the two are pretty equal. I'd give the nod to SSC on the "body" part though in style and the choice of not using mixed media works a bit better. It's also much easier to find room for a 1:2 bust than a 1:1 bust.
However, when the 1:1 Superman bust shows up, I'm going to HAVE to find a place to have them both on display. I've got the 1:2 Batman bust and a 1:2 Superman bust on either side of a 46" television up stairs, so the 1:1 Batman and Superman busts should work well with the 58" tv downstairs. It's just a matter of convincing my wife and finding some display shelving that's BIG enough.
