I think the problem with WB's interpretation of their "we're different than Marvel, more real gritty and grounded" in the long run is gonna hurt them. Theyr'e movies are dark. Its great for fan boys and adults, which I've been for over 30 years. But I have a family now and would like to share that with my 9 year old twins (boy and girl). And here is where the problem lies... These movies, while not rated "R" are not kid friendly. They're moody and ultimately depressing. It's cool and OK for a grown up to walk away knowing the difference, not a kid. My kids like everything Marvel. They've seen it all (movies and animated/cartoons) and I feel comfortable letting them see it before I have first. With DC they've watched the Batman cartoons (all versions), Superman cartoons, Green Lantern cartoons and JL cartoons. I have'nt let them watch most of the animated movies though cause they are for a much more mature audience. As far as DC movies? They've sat through 3 and thats it. Original Superman 1 and 2 (3 and 4 are just awful and not worth the time
), and Green Lantern (not too good but kid friendly). Original Batman & Batman Returns a little dark, Batman Forever & Batman & Robin just bad (see comment for Superman 3 & 4), Nolan trilogy too dark, Watchmen a no, Superman Returns maybe OK but not a fan, and even though I enjoyed MOS, I steel feel I wanted them to be a little older before they see it. You see most kids see Superman, Green Lantern and all the other DC heroes as heroic and a shinning beacons (even Batman) just like Marvel heroes. DC's new cinematic universe is not that. They want gritty and real (which also can be depressing). So after seeing this trailer and knowing the coming movies, and how they are setting the tone for their cinematic universe making everything dark & gritty, there's not 1 movie on the horizon I would take my kids to see with me before I watched it 1st.. This is why so many movies forgo an "R" rating to gain a wider audience, but if their dark and their parents now it, they're not gonna let them see it. The critics, just like with MOS are gonna have a field day with this. And while I don't listen to them, many people, especially parents, do. Before I was a parent I longed for a more mature superhero movie, now not so much. So this is from my being a parent's perspective, instead of just a fan boy. It's gonna be hard to achieve the same success as Marvel who's movies so far have been accessible to almost everyone.... Good luck DC, your gonna need it..
