Quick question for the other folks that have seen it...

Was there any explanation whatsoever for how Luthor knew that Wayne is Batman? He lets it be known so fast that he knows that I had to do a mental double-take to make sure I was piecing what he had just said together right. He tells Superman on the roof that he has been pulling Batman's strings for awhile now to get him ready to fight him- Oh, things here and there to get him riled up... Red letters saying "you let your family die"- which is something he did to Bruce Wayne, not Batman.

I mean, one must infer that he got all his knowledge on who Superman is from the archives in the Kryptonian ship... But Batman? It just seems like a pretty major plot-point with absolutely zero explanation. But I guess that is par for the course with this film really.

3. Batman Returns

???

Whoever wrote that article is a tasteless *******.

Why so much anger? That top three is dead on correct.

Dropping back in here one last time to comment and share something.

I contacted Zack earlier to let him know that I'm still personally proud of him and have his back. We knew the movie would have its detractors (particularly among online critics who'd been sharpening the knives for months), but nobody expected this level of vitriol toward the film, and him personally. He's actually taking it pretty well, much better than some of us. It's amazing the savage beating that he and the movie are taking. To the point where it becomes unbelievable when you step back and realize that we're really just talking about a harmless movie here. To have that much anger, negativity and invective toward something like this with everything else going on in the world is really quite depressing. We're all fine with people not liking these movies, but lines are starting to be crossed now... and that's not cool.

Afterward, I talked to my girlfriend about it. She's a kind, sweet soul (much moreso than me :lol) but also a tad naive. She gives everyone the benefit of the doubt in ways which my battle-fatigued self cannot. In response to those attacking Zack so savagely, she said "I know he won't, but what if all of this got to him and he hurt himself or something. Then they'd feel bad for being so hateful over movies." It was then that it dawned on me... You know, I think some of them would actually LIKE for that to happen. And then I realized how far this has all gone now. It started with Lucas and the prequels, people taking things way too seriously and crossing the line with ad hominem attacks toward people who did nothing more than create something they don't like. What started this disturbing trend (which is seemingly just getting worse) Is it Social Media? The Internet itself? Mob Mentality? Or is an illumination on society itself? Who knows. But I know this: People need to start waking up to the fact that when negative energy is put out there to this degree, it's going to affect someone personally somewhere. Unfortunately, I know that there are some who LOVE that idea... that the're own vitriol can go out into the ethos and hurt someone. But is this really what we want? I really wish people would start thinking about this more.

Personal attacks on film makers will never make sense to me. There are some awful insults thrown their way. I will never get it.

I think the films themselves are fair game. having said that I prefer intelligent critics to hateful ones.

People are dicks. I think that people have always been dicks, but, lately, it seems like Planet Earth took a whole bottle of Viagra and they're just a bunch of raging hard-ons. Sadly, it's not just movies. Take one look on your TV, or the news, or, hell, right outside your window, and you're liable to catch a glimpse of one.

Ultimately, I think you nailed it in reference to the advent of the Internet. The problem with everyone having a soapbox is that it not only gives them an inflated sense of self-confidence, but, in doing so, it amplifies the inherent *********gery that previously lie dormant in their shy, awkward souls.

It's the Anonymity that the internet brings to the people. People would not say half the things they do on the internet with fear of being punched in the face :)

There is also a disconnect. Part of it is they may think the person they are attacking will never see their post. Other part is they are allowed not to see the reaction and face the consequences of their actions.. (see my punch comment)

Going down to 33% on RT, thank God I'm not a betting man.

I suggest seeing it to any comic fan or action movie fan. Its big and epic and isn't nearly as slow as people are making it seem, hardly feels like 2 1/2 hours. I'm sure I could find some plot holes next time I see it but there was never anything head scratchingly bad ( There was one huge aspect that I don't understand, I'm not sure if I missed something, but it could have been explained in a couple of simple lines). The way everything happened was very logical and natural. The second half of the movie was all showcased in the trailers so that was disappointing. I remember reading something along the lines of "if you think that trailer spoiled everything, your gonna be surprised!" It really did spoil most of the movie.

like for instance, the attack on metropolis from MOS and bruce running in is no more in depth then what the trailers show

It was very obvious to me at least that Cavill was gonna be horrible in this, every shot in the trailers had him grimacing and frowning rather unrealistically. So no surprises there, he is awful in this.

Batman is the best thing in this movie. But that's a relative statement.
Honestly I wasn't terribly impressed with Affleck either, and I was one of the people who was delighted when he took the role. So I was taken aback by that a bit. It's just all too much. Fake, plastic hardness. Trying to be waaaaay too cool, in every single ****ing shot.
If this was a stand alone Batman movie I would still be disappointed with him in the bat shoes. probably not totally Affleck's fault and I would still kill to see him in a solo movie with a very different directorial style.

Having said that it's very hard to untangle what works and what doesn't in the movie, on one viewing anyway, it's a bowl of spaghetti.
I find it very funny that some people are equating dark/dry and sombre as a mature, adult take on the material, it's quite the opposite. this is NOT what Nolan did with TDK trilogy. This is like a video game that strives to have depth by making everything overly dramatic, it comes across as very silly. Some of it actually feels like cut-scenes between levels.
It strives to take itself seriously, but in a hamfisted teenage angst kind of way. Terrible *profound* dialogue and imagery. It makes the whole thing stilted and cheesy.
Honestly it would have been better if it had gone full ****** and embraced the craziness of it all.

I will stand by what I said originally though, I liked it, it was a very *interesting* cinema experience, I didn't find it boring, better than MOS for me. And I will watch the 18rated Blu-ray later in the year. But this is not a good movie by any stretch.

Sooooo it's one of those movies. :lol

Great review.

what never ever makes sense to me is attacking a director and ignoring a writer. or giving a pass to a studio. sure the director has a lot to do

but how come when Pixels was bashed NO ONE on the internet ever even mentioned who wrote it? or wrote an article about it? how come no one ever mentions how the writer of the ninja turtles did a terrible job?
everyone attacking Bay when he didn't even WRITE it or even direct it always seemed ridiculous to me. no one even knows who wrote the ninja turtles movie, everyone went to hate and attack the director but writers are always attack free.

I mean, I know trashing directors is bad, but what baffles me is how all the people being angry leave the people that actually wrote the bad stories out of it.

Pretty funny the number of people in this thread that are freaking out without even seeing it. The nerd rage is real :lol

thats stupid, i havent really complained hard about anything, Ive asked questions and laughed at what i am seeing. cant fully complain about something i didnt see.

(Every detail) do you hear how stupid that sounds? do you really? the 5 minute fight SOUNDS bad. all the trailers are about those two fighting, you are just exaggerating, having worries about a 5 minute fight is not "Complaining about every single detail" thats idiotic.

Yeah it's really stupid how I'm polluting the thread with my idiotic posts. You told me.

Yeah I saw it and feel like these horrid reviews are coming from nowhere. It made no more or less sense then both avenger's movies in terms of plot holes and "the whole movie being a mess". The score and themes for some characters were a bit shocking, not at all what I expected I dug it for sure. Definitly some cheesey scenes which work for a chuckle. Cyborg and Aquaman made me laugh to myself a bit. I'm not a fan of long movies at all, just thinking about sitting in a chair for 3 hours bugs me. When it was getting towards the end I kept thinking "really already?." I also saw this in one of those prime atmos dolby theaters, daaaammnnn was it beautiful and LOUD.

sorry I keep posting but my thoughts are running with this one. Did anyone else find it refreshing and odd how subtle every batman thing was? No hype was built for the batmobile, or the suit of armor, or his gadgets, or the batwing. He just kind of had everything already and would just use it, as opposed to us seeing him build it or suit up or whatever.

Ha. I remember in Age of Ultron when that new AI just comes out of nowhere. Or when you get that moment where you think. "Oooh. Looks like they might explore how some people don't like the Avengers because they feel as if they are policing the world." But that goes on for 2 seconds and is never brought up again.

Even in Guardians of the Galaxy. I feel things don't happen organically as they could. They just happen because. MOVIE!

A lot of summer flicks can be picked a part if you want to.

He's not smiling.
There's a look exchange to say "ok I trust you let's do this".
And Supes don't kill the guy, he flies though hut walls with him.
The detail being he has his fist raised so you can assume that he's destroying the wall while carrying the guy away.

Didn'tLois said after that scene that Clark can't kill someone even if she is in danger? And Sups said if it is about her...he can't let any bad things happen even it than means he has to kill a guy just like before.
