:lol Your front lawn really has nothing to do with the health of the vegetation of the greater planet earth. A couple of trees in your local state park don't either. Those are drops in the bucket compared to the forests upon forests that have been destroyed in the past 200-300 years.

Um, cut down plants don't count. Maine is one of the most undeveloped forest habitats on the planet, and annual fluctuations in density are an excellent indicator of how conducive the climate is to plant vitality (particularly new growth).

Well before the thread gets locked from the political debate... I'm on snowday #3!!! I've been here for 10 years and this is the first time that's ever happened :rock

Funny thing is I went out last night and the roads were bad, but not nearly bad enough to warrant another day off. But, you won't hear me complain :lol

This is the most snow I've ever seen here in one sitting and probably more things shut down for longer than normal as well. Only thing I can really compare it to is the ice storm in 2002.

We were sorta lucky I guess, I was on vacation so obviously the pipes weren't flowing so they could have easily burst if I had been gone much longer. The day I came back we went down to -14.

They say that running the tap slightly can prevent the pipes from freezing.

How much new growth have you seen in Maine in the last 10 years, aside from the annual Christmas tree harvest? :rotfl

Unless Maine is really progressively repurposing land or rejuvinating old forests via fire for new plantation I would say "nil".

This weather is BS, I am having to go back to temps in the 60s. What the hell I may have to wear long pants vs shorts.:panic::panic::panic:

You can check NASA satellite maps of South America that show how much the ancient forests have decreased and are still decreasing.

We're on #3 for school too. I'll only get paid for one since we only get 3 days for snow days now. I'll have to burn my personal days if I want paid.

We had 10 snow days years ago one winter. The governor at the time granted us 5 more than our usual 5 since the winter storms affected the whole state. Now we're down to 3. :cuckoo:

Sub zero temps tonight with even colder wind chill. :monkey4

Do you not have to make up all those school days missed?

Trees aren't the only plants in a forest. Did you know that the rest of them die when it gets cold? When the big light in the sky comes back, so do the plants. Depending upon variations in factors like heat and water, the density of the new, seasonal growth will be more or less dense.

Since CO2 is another requirement for plant growth, it would follow that plants will prosper when they get more of it. I don't know. Maybe there's not that much of a net increase in atmospheric CO2.

Are those the ones they cut down, and continue to cut?

Cutting and burning.

School and work is canceled tomorrow and not one flake of snow has fallen in Houston yet. :lol

We were off for 3 days and today we had a two hour delay. The kids were here a total of 3 hours, including lunch. Stupid waste of time, IMO.
