I've been getting annoyed with the "cheapness" of Modern Warfare 2, lately. Don't ask me to expand on that - I just don't know how much longer I can tolerate being tactical knifed by a marathon/lightweight/commando class after emptying half a magazine of 5.56 into the guy. Little stuff like that has eat at me since Day 1 and it's just old after three prestiges. Don't even get me started on the glitching, hacking, infinite camp packages, etc.
So I saw a clip of the Bad Company 2 BETA on youtube, yesterday, and thought to myself, "Well hot damn, that looks better than MW2."
I downloaded the demo when I got home. First thoughts,
I didn't really like it. Graphically, it's rather dated. Controls are rather clunky, and there's not much you can do about it. I'm moving very slow and at close quarters I seem to be outgunned and outmaneuvered no matter what. Worse so than in MW2, even. No prone?! No strafe?! No sway in the scopes?! Lots of accessories and all of them rather complicated to use. Nobody in my squad seems interested in the objective - - - and nobody was on microphone.
I gave it a shot, anyway. MW2 is full of frills and I'm bored with it - I'll try it a little longer and see if the core, the heart and soul of this game, is closer to what I'm looking for. I played a dozen matches, more or less.
I eventually got put in a squad with a fellow that was also using the microphone. He jumped in a tank - I said, "Hold up, I'll be your gunner!" I jumped in, and we held the fork in the road on defense for the entire length of the game - - - infantry was slaughtered, armor was dispatched relatively quickly, even a helicopter took us on. Only the UAV seemed to hurt us. We pwned, in other words. We dominated five consecutive matches and we weren't even on one another's friend's list - we just communicated.
I placed my pre-order with Amazon afterwards.
I guess my opinion at this point is that in order to enjoy the game, you really need to pair up with someone like-minded on the microphone or join a clan. Thrown into a squad with a couple of mute mercenaries will make for a miserable time. Less patient people, wanting quick kills and instant gratification, won't even give this game a chance. But maybe those people are the one's I'm trying to run away from, anyway?
