So, this is going to be my first time painting a 12" head, any tips? I'm particularly interested to know which paints and brushes some of the customizers recommend.

How would we find a costume designer, doll clothier or the like to make us a batch of BSG uniforms? If we could get a supplier to make us some quality uniforms, then we could get Apollo, Tigh, Adama, and most other Colonial Warriors. We'd also need a female cut for Starbuck, of course.

Well... Brushes are various... doesn't really matter as long as it is comfortable for you. But I find that small, round tipped brushes do the trick for most work I do. Flats are almost useless for anything besides applying sealant, but the round tips are great for Dry brushing and tiny details.

As for paints, I highly recommend Model Master Acryl paints. Any shade of the rainbow. Best for human likenesses, Skin Tone Warm... Skin Tone Base, Leather, Classic Red, Burnt Umber and Raw Umber. Oh and of course Black, White and Off White. :D

Not sure on uniforms.... I've been looking for someone with small scale sewing skills for a long time. They are pretty scarce. If they are out there they usually are already working exclusively for someone....or themselves. Best thing to do is find something that can be modified to fit the bill. Usually you can do things with glue and paint that can make up for it. I'm a scavenger myself... using bits from here and there....

Thanks! The paint names alone are a lot of help.

here are my thoughts on 1/6 flightsuits

the shoes/gloved hands/ weapons and any other 'hard' flightsuit bits could be sculpted and cast. I can provide clean clear pictures of the screen accurate shoes/weapons/ rank pins/ pocket devices/ etc. as for the gloved hands, I would suggest we decide on a couple of hand positions we like for male and female hands, then I'll take some all angles pics of my and my boyfriend's hands wearing the screen accurate gloves. there are 2 problems I see with this set up and they mostly have to do with the hands/feet. 1.) casting hands/feet is hard. with all the different ankle/wrist set-ups for all the different bodies, we'd have decide on a body and only make pieces for that. 2.) resin has no give. trying to put a resin weapon in a resin hand would only end in tears and cursing. the lack of give would make making the hinge joints needed for a hand/foot extremely hard to do and the connector pins likely to break.

there are ways around these problems. the hands/feet could be cast without any connectors/ joint in them and those that buy them can put what ever they want for what ever body they're want to use. the cuffs of the flightsuits would easily cover a multitude of Frankenstein-ing sins. as for the weapon/hand thing, just cast an empty hand, a loose weapon and a hand with a weapon in it.

now for the flightsuits, these may not be as hard to get as they may at first seem. if one brave soul were tinker around and come up with a pattern and list of materials, then people could take that information to those that do commissions and get their flight suits through them. it would allow people to choose what style body, fabric, and price range they want to use and let them decide when they want to do it. it would be easier to find a bunch of different seamstresses to do 1-2 flightsuits each then one to do 50.

I like the way you're thinking Koipond! A way to avoid the hands would be to go with the regular uniform. If we were to get some flightsuit action, we'd need a helmet. And that seems intimidating to me.

But a pattern, some material, and a seamstress... :monkey1

The other option would be to pick head sculpts from characters when they're out of uniform. Like Tigh on new Caprica. But that would only work for some characters. I wouldn't really want a Starbuck in her New Caprica prison garb, for instance.

Yeah, I'm pretty much only interested in characters in uniform. I'm working on a custom BSG fatigue uniform. It's almost done. I just need to get off my butt and find a suitable material for the shoulders and then sew it on. Basically, I used a set of OD BDUs and modified them. The problem is that OD BDUs are kind of hard to come by.

The dress/officer uniforms are a bit more of a challenge. I think they would pretty much need to be made from scratch. And the flight suits would be the greatest logistical challenge as they are a bit complicated and the material is very difficult to come by, not to mention the accessories. It would definitely be cool, though.

The problem of the conectivity isnt really an issue for females. There are really only 3 good female boides. BBI Perfect Body, Soilder Stoy(that Triad Disturbute) and the upcomming Triad Eva bodies. All these bodies feature the same hand foot connectors. So it just comes up to deciding on a male body to use.

*Ahem* Hot Toys... which should definitely be the body for Six, since its midsection is not marred by an ugly joint.

and this is exactly what i'm talking about. everyone has a different idea of what is the right body or the right uniform or the right price for said body or uniform. if we can leave the greatest amount of options open for people to choose, we can have the greatest amount of people involved.

I didnt include the hot toys body beacuse it's not widley availbe unless HT release the female body in the near future. And the Triad Eva body unless it went under some crazy remodeling looked like it would be the best for the exposed skin look.

Fair enough. I'd still give the HT a slight edge over the Eva due to the soft rubber on the torso, but you're right, the Eva will look pretty spiffy in that outfit as well.

Hmmm... maybe Louie is who we should be kvetching to to get some clothing made? I could see Six's dress fitting right into his product line.

Yeah it would fit pretty nicely. But as far as Six goes I dont think thats really the figure in question. Whatever body you use basic availbe hands will do the tirck. But as far as for characters like Starbuck in order to have the gloved hands and boots cast I stand by If they were done and made to fit the Eva/Perfect Body/Cy Girl/Soilderstory bodies people would have plenty of choice. More so for the fett really as they should be bootfett hands tend to be easily modifiable to fit anything. Just my 2 cents on that whole subject.

Just thought I'd bump this thread up and see if there are any progess updates.

I found a pretty good body to use for Six when we get the sculpt. Jakks Pacific made a 1/6 female body with virtually no joint lines for their Charlie's Angels dolls, and the Josie and the *****cats. I got one of the Charlie's Angel's bodies and it's the perfect height and size, it's about as big as a cy girl or hot toys female body. It doesn't have much poseability but it looks great. Here's a link to an auction with the body I'm talking about(not my auction):

It's easy to find the bodies for reasonable prices if you know what to look for.

For uniforms try AOWtoys.com

They do require a sample body though if its not one they carry to ensure a good fit.

Yeah, things are pretty quiet... still waiting on an update from Daniel. I know this is his first sculpt with long hair, so it will be tougher than an Obi Wan.. :lol
