The actor who played Leonidas in 300 is playing Beowulf in the live action version.

I'm pretty sure that Grendel (voiced by Crispin Glover) was only speaking old-English, which was a nice touch given the origins of the material.

And I really enjoyed the changes they made from the poem, it really added a lot to the characters and the story and tied together disparate elements of the source material.

I had no idea Crispin Glover was in it!!! I am definitely seeing it then. He hasn't been in anything interesting since Rubin and Ed... (great indie flick if you wanna check it out!!!)...

Finally saw Beowulf today, definitely worth seeing. And I was surprised how much I liked it. By wife was very annoyed by the liberties taken with the story, so something to be aware of... but for a action/medieval sort of film it was quite good.

Also I was expecting it to suck pretty hard, so I was more than happy. Alhtough I think if it was live action and not in 3D... it would have been as effective. Live action would have come off as too hokey, but with CGI you're already in a different mindframe.

I saw Beowulf the night it premiered and I loved the visuals and the action. I was a little put off by the amount of liberties they took with the classic poem. The movie was great and deserves all the honors it can get, but certain parts were a little off to me.

This is not a spoiler but does give a little away.

When I read this in high school I had a visual of Beowulf in my head. I thought he was a mix of He-Man and Thor but in this movie I thought he was closer to Brad Pitt as Achilles in Troy. You know, known for super-human feats but not quite super-human. That's funny for me to say because there have been rumors that Pitt is being recruited to play He-Man in a live action movie.

Anyway, if you haven't seen Beowulf do it now before I Am Legend and the Golden Compass come out.

i saw it last night in live action. i enjoyed the characters, effects and story. one thing i didn't like is there were lulls in the action with some boring moments but all in all, i would recommend seeing beowulf. also because it's advertised as the future of film making. i'm expecting t-4 to be somewhere along these lines when arnold's image will be used to create multiple terminators.

I enjoyed the movie in 3D. The special effects were top notch. I wonder if it would have been half as good otherwise? I guess I will see when it comes out on DVD. Something tells me though it will just be average when watched on a regular set.

I completely agree with you Badmoon, a really fun movie, but if not for the novelty of CGI and 3D it would have been a pretty blah experience.

Anyone know if DVDs be released using the same kind of 3D, or can they only do the red and blue glasses?

I'm pretty sure that they could, it's just a little bit different than the red and blue thing. Basically the way it would be filmed is that it's got two cameras filming side by side pointed at the same thing, and then they place the footage over the other and when you use those grey glasses then it makes it 3D. Sometimes they'll have two projectors projecting each side on the screen, but I'm not sure if it would work to have them on DVD like that.

Plus, I'm sure that not everyone would like it that way.

I'd love it :lol I'd definitely buy a 3D version of the film, but not the 2D... just wouldn't be as interesting to me.
