Let me say first up that I loved J.J. Abrams' Star Trek and agree it was up there with the best of the franchise.

But not necessarily *the* best.

What bugs me is that people seemed in too much of a hurry to proclaim it the best Trek ever, and had short memories when it came to some of the classics.

Many still regard Wrath of Khan as the best, and First Contact is also a favorite. I personally think Undiscovered Country is up there, but The Voyage Home seems to have dropped off the radar despite being the most popular "mainstream" Trek film at the time. (Of course these are all the even-numbered ones!)

So what do you think? Which is your favorite?

Since the poll is limited to 10 options I've left out Insurrection - don't think anyone will mind! :wink1:

I think the best movie is "The Undiscovered Country", but The Wrath of Khan is probably my favorite. Plus, I just love how Parts 2, 3, 4 and 6 all go together.

I'm not a big fan of the Next Gen movies. First Contact was good, but if you take out all the Zephren Cochrane stuff, it could have been GREAT. Generations in my opinion simply felt like a better version of The Final Frontier. Nemesis was dismal. Data has ANOTHER clone? And now Picard as well? Seriously?!? It's kind of a shame because the Next Gen series was so good.

The new movie was FANTASTIC!! I really hope they cast Antonio Banderas as the new Khan.

I think we will need time before we know how truly good the Abrams film is. Personally, I think I like it the best, but the "newness" might be skewing my view. It will ultimately be either that or Wrath of Khan, I'm sure. I would probably need to watch them back to back in a couple of years to really get a good, fair impression. But then, both are so different, that they are kind of tough to compare. In terms of the pacing, story telling, and acting, I think they are both equal. But the new one just has superior effects and feels "bigger." On the other hand, Khan has the more iconic actors. . .

I can't believe somebody else also voted the "Undiscovered Country". I thought FOR SURE I would be the only one.

I also like "Voyage Home" DEAL WITH IT.

You gotta love Nicholas Meyer. He wrote and directed both the Wrath of Khan and the Undiscovered Country, in addition to contributing to The Voyage Home screenplay.

Totally agree, Its great that 2,3,4 & 6 were continuations of an underlying plot thread. For me, 2 & 3 are my favorites followed by 6 and New Trek. 2 & 3 had an amazing emotional core, fantastic acting, script, direction and music. I really got a feeling that this band of brothers and sisters would do anything for one another. That's what I like about the re boot. Although i hate the fact they've destroyed Vulcan and messed up the timeline, these new actors are an excellent ensemble and could make something equally as amazing as the original cast...
As for the other films, the Motion Picture was a fun film imo but totally disconnected from the following 5 sequels. 5 was a MESS, 6 was a fitting end to the original crew. I liked the Next Gen series and the Borg war two parter was the pinnacle of the franchise. However i just dont think it ever translated well to film...even First Contact felt like a glorified t.v episode. That's the fault of Berman and the other powers that be. Despite being a golden egg for them, they continually devalued it by not giving it the love it deserved. The Next Gen cast were pretty spot on apart from Diana 'Great boobs, crap actress' Troy and were wasted...

I haven't seen the Next Generation movies yet, they are on my list. Would you all say that they can be enjoyed apart from the series?

Personally I think Wrath of Khan was the best. I've only seen the originals once, but that's the one that stands out the most in my mind. I also like that it was a sequel to a TV episode. The new movie is great in that it reaches out to a wider audience, but personally it seemed too far removed from the characters etc. I would have preferred this to be the newest generation, or the generation between the previous two. :lol

New Star Trek, hands down. JJ did a fantastic job as did all the actors. #2 Wrath of Khan, then #3, 4, 6-10
5 being my least favourite. Have them all, including the original series, watch the yearly marathons on tv.

Wrath of Khan is the most entertaining, but overall I'd say First Contact is the best. The acting is certaily better than any of the other films, the amount of humor is just right and Patrick Stewart is fantastic in it. It was a brilliant followup to the Best of Both Worlds story. The only place it loses points for me is relying on the old time travel crutch.

I liked First Contact as well... but just to counter it (and for fun)

I'd vote 2 & 3 (as the top two) with J.J.'s a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry close third. First Contact would be behind it at fourth. IMHO.

It's a tossup between TWOK and FC for me. Really, really close. I went with TWOK, but now kinda regret it. :monkey1

I thought I posted, but it must've disappeared. Anyway, I think the best was Wrath of Khan, but my favorite is Voyage Home. My least favorite is Final Frontier. It had it's moments, but overall.....gag.

All of them are far inferior to the series IMHO, but if I had to pick one, I'd say The Voyage Home. Not a great film, but I love the fact that the characters are confronted to this "middle age culture" that is ours! :D

EDIT: Loved JJ Abrams take on ST, like everybody I guess, but I don't really consider it to be part of the series. Just like Batman, it's a reboot, a great one, but a whole new era that's not part of canon ST.

I loved the remake by J.J. Abrams. So much that it's probably my favourite Trek film to date. That said, I enjoyed First Contact very much.

Undiscovered Country is a great Trek film. It's 2nd to "Wrath" for me followed by "Voyage Home".

I loved the remake by J.J. Abrams.

:lecture The Abrams one isn't a remake, they just chose not to give it a title beyond "Star Trek" :lecture :peace

Why isn't Insurrection on the list? Nobody will pick it as a favorite, but it hardly seems fair to exclude Insurrection but include "The Final Frontier". :monkey4

I'd put Insurrection above Final Frontier, TMP, Nemesis, and maybe even The Search for Spock. Just because it lacks the epic scale of the other films, doesn't make it a bad movie.

Undiscovered Country!! Then TWOK, then...I guess the JJ Abrams one, because it is fresh and new and sparkly.

JJ's Trek. Fun, funny, action packed, a ton of heart, good story, well developed characters, and a great musical score. Whats not to love?
