J.J.'s STAR TREK, for me, is the best hands down with WRATH OF KHAN behind it. Let's face it, J.J.'s STAR TREK was unlike any Trek film before it terms of production value and FX; that's what you get with hundreds of millions of dollars but what's more, it had a script with rich and deep characterization that turned the entire franchise on its head. Add a rip roaring and relevant origin story with tons of twists and behold, best STAR TREK film ever! And that shake up was sorely needed. STAR TREK became not only relevant again with J.J.'s film, it approached the watermark of high art.

I would say Star Trek (2009) and Wrath of Khan - though they were made years apart, both feature emotional stories involving characters you care about. Both heavily feature one of the best things about Trek, IMO - and that's the Kirk/Spock bond and friendship.

"I have been and always shall be your friend" - when old Spock said that to Pine's Kirk, I got chills, remembering the death scene in TWOK.

I think the new Star Trek is overrated. It just doesn't stand up to repeat viewings IMO. The plot holes become more and more apparent, the lens flare gets more and more annoying. This coming from someone who massively enjoyed it at the cinema.

I voted Wrath of Khan. I also love VI, Generations and First Contact.

III has some good scenes but overall was a bit weak. IV....ok I still enjoy IV. V was awful. Insurrection and Nemesis were meh.

That's the one thing I hate about the newest Trek.......the damn lens flare.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (directors cut)
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

meh to the rest.

Wrath of Khan is obviously a classic! It is, however, the original cast and original story line. So, while it is no doubt a great movie, it isnt what I would call overly original as it simply builds on an existing story that was developed through the entire original show and a first movie.

I voted for J.J.'s Star Trek because in terms of originality I think it takes the cake. It was brilliant! It completely reinvented the Star Trek movie franchis and hit the reset button on the entire universe without actually breaking continuity! The characters were essentially the same, but new actors took on the roles, which is always a hard sell to true fans, yet I dont know too many trekkies that didnt like the film. Even the costumes were impressive....with a retro yet futuristic look that actually made sense!

Basically, what Im saying...is that Wrath of Khan may be tied for best "Star Trek" movie...I think the new Star Trek takes it for the "best movie" that is also Star Trek...if that makes any sense.

The only thing the JJA's version invented was several plotholes and the lens flare.

JJA's version completely re-wrote the universe. There are inventions, and then there are innovations. The brilliance of JJA's reimagining is that it changed very little while simultaneously changing everything WHILE maintaining the original series as part of ongoining continuity!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...but most people that didnt like the new Star Trek movie simply didnt understand it.

Rewriting the universe doesn't mean much.

It was things like Young Spock just happened to bean Kirk onto a planet that had Old Spock on it and was able to find a Federation base that had Scotty who just happened to be the only person that knows how to bean back onto the same ship while at worp speed.

Also pretty lame to think a planet like Vulcan that has space travel, had no way of defending itself against a ship with a big drill bit . .

It was a decent summer flick that looked good. About it.

Technically Scotty didn't even know how to do it, Old Spokc had to tell him since Scotty hadn't figured it out yet. But I personally don't feel like that is very different from alot of convenient coincidences that occur in movies.

Also, I don't feel that this movie kept with continuity for the original series. I feel like this movie is much more of a reboot than a prequel...

I hated the line from Capt.Pike in the new JJ Trek movie about "parking brakes" so very non Star Trek-ish, how about inertial dampeners before warp? duh!.

FC was pretty good. I liked how the guy that created the warp drive was pretty much worshiped in the fure as a great man, and it turned out he did it all for money. Made you think about going back in time to meet Washington or Lincoln and finding out they were not so great men.

But for me, STII is the best. Just something about he Kirk vs Khan even though they were never present together during any shooting. And it has the classic:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/wRnSnfiUI54&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/wRnSnfiUI54&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Khan wins hands down as the most fun to watch. Ricardo Montalban chews the scenery like a t-rex, and nothing in any Trek movie or series will ever top Spock's death scene, ever.

In fact, I change my vote. Wrath of Kahn is the best.

The latest one was the most emotional for me. Wrath of Khan, Undiscovered Country, First Contact and Star Trek are all fighting for the top spot of the series for me.

(I also have a soft spot for that one with George Lazenby.)

You forgot the Starship Modeler.com fan favorite... Galaxy Quest :rotfl

For me though, it's VI: The Undiscovered Country. With the new film and II taking a close second.

Though, I suppose if you want to get LOTR, one could claim that 2-5 were all one film as they took place literally days apart from one another with the longest stretch in between 3 and 4.
