Newsflash: glass is heavy. :) Then there's the other issue: cantilevered when open

Indeed. I was hoping IKEA would take that into consideration! :lol Most particle board furniture says: "This thing will fall on your face if your kids use it as a jungle gym." Not: "The doors engineering to rest on the frame will cause it to crush you and everyone you love."

As far as anchoring to the wall - how do you feel about false walls with additional studs? I saw one such wall on IkeaHackers. A guy built it in his living room and then fixed to it a huge IKEA cabinet, with floating frames above the TV bench, and even some nice brick veneering.

An unloaded besta with glassvik doors is already front heavy. Open the top 2 doors and you'll see it has a tendency to tip forward. Definitely anchor it to the wall and if there are no studs in the area use screws with dry wall anchors.

I find myself constantly rearranging my display so having two doors open at the same time is much quicker :)
I also tried doing the same thing with with raising the front to give it a slight tilt to the back but I'm using the stubbarp legs and it didn't look good when I tried.
For me, anchoring is a nice sense of security of not having to come home and finding my Bestas face down on the floor with all of my collectibles shattered to smithereens.

I have so many bestas in all different shapes and none of them are anchored to the wall because of thick molding around my house, (and laziness). Even with them empty, it seems like you really need to work them to get them to start to topple.

I have 3 bestas with tombo doors and 1 billy with morliden doors. The only one that I have anchored to the wall is the billy. The billy, not being as deep and having heavy doors would definitely tip over.

Just bought a bunch of Bestå today, with the proper Glassvik clear glass doors. Reading the posts above about anchoring into the wall and realizes that I have to get some kind of ladder to be able to reach that high. Bummer.

Yes, the Billy cabinet will tip over if not attached to a solid wall. I still play it safe by putting my heaviest statues at the bottom.

Ikea (UK) are charging £10 for a pair of soft closing hinges, very expensive, with a push open gadget.
I already have the push open accessories which I think are pretty useless and you can't buy the hinges on their own.

If you buy a pack of Malad doors you get two pairs of soft closing hinges with them for £15.
I'll be swopping the hinges before adding them to my sons Bestas :D

All of IKEA's hinges have been standard Blum parts in the past, so you can search other online retailers for suitable replacements. In my experience, this doesn't necessarily save any money unless you're buying a bulk/contractor pack.

Frankly I don't care at this point.

Edit: Actually, Sindvik works. Found some. Not sure why they don't show up when you search for Besta doors.

Been to Ikea three times in the last four days :gah:

Thought this looked pretty cool for you 'Toy' collectors...
