what has happened to the besta shelves, checked here in the UK, and they are not for sale, what could be the reason for none available?

1. You missed them in the store.
2. You searched for the wrong thing online.

Besta is one of IKEA's top products world-wide, one of their signature lines.

It seems so simple, but I don't recall seeing any pictures. Has anyone used a single Besta cube underneath a Detolf cabinet to raise it up a bit?

I've been thinking about trying this, but wasn't sure if it would be TOO tall.

Definitely not too tall. Not tall enough for ideal height IMO, but much better than nothing. If you put feet on it so it doesn't sit flat on the floor it will look better, but the width still doesn't match up well with the Detolf.

You got a tape measure?

Detolf: 163cm. Besta: 64cm. 227cm.

Clearing the ceiling, it shouldn't be a problem in most people's case, but I'm wondering if the top shelf would be too high to really be able to see and appreciate the figures when standing close. Bottom and middle shelf would benefit greatly, but I fear the top shelf would be worse off than the bottom currently is without the lift. I may have to mock up a layout if no one has any pictures of using an actual Besta.

Bottom shelf, of my Besta setup, has always been my issue.
Would love to use solid doors on the bottom but I see that as wasted disply space, my room isn't that big.

I keep the heavy items on the bottom which tend to be larger. Luckily I bought three Tombo doors before they discontinued them.

Sure you could find a solid piece of furniture around the height of a single Besta to judge what viewing your Detolf would look like?

That is exactly what I do. I use it for storage. I've started to think about opening up since I am limited on display space but I do like that i have a little storage area.

Having trouble making up my mind on Glassvik vs the new Sindvik doors. Both seem to have the same size window. Sindvik is $20 cheaper (times 14 doors that I need) but Glassvik looks better. So mad they pulled the hinges and didn't reduce the door price to compensate.

hmm, on the Canadian site the doors are listed at $25, which is $15 cheaper than what the Glassviks were going for. Seems like the Glassviks are back, but $5 more. Ugh

That's what my wife wants to do to me because I can't make up my mind between the doors :lol

I was torn, but I'll def be going with Sindvik now. Every dollar counts. I only need 3 or 4 for the units containing my media consoles.

Is it possible to easily remove glass from Sindvik or similar doors and replace with lighter, UV resistant acrylic? The two doors on each of the tall towers on the sides of my finished unit are going to need custom doors, and that's the type of glass they'll be getting.

I opted for the Sindvik in the end. I've always been happy with the look of the Vassbo doors I have, and these give me the smaller bezel I wanted. Plus they won't show dust as bad as the black Glassvik since I'm not a regular duster. Saved $240 on the setup so it's a win.

Once I get home and crack them open in a couple days I'll take shots of the inside to show how they are put together.

I've decided to clean up the lighting in my collection. Currently the "3M" or whatever glue thats on the back of the led is falling off, which not there are sagging parts to the LED strips. And now I'm tired of looking at the mess lol.

So I bought the following

Aluminum LED profile/extrusions
14ga Wire
5050 LED
Heat Shrink to Cover The Wire

Pretty excited to wire everything up and make my collection look cleaner

Have fun and post pics when finished! Always fun to see new lighting setups.
