a lot of geeks hate the show, like really hate the show.

some nerds even said it was like "Nerd blackface"
(the show relies on lazy humor. It has references for their own sake, not as part of a well-constructed joke, or even to evoke a feeling of nostalgia and inclusion over a shared memory. The references just come across as pandering.)

I really don't agree with that. I was watching an episode last night and 2 of the guys were taunting each other by doing JarJar impressions. And they were really good impressions too that went above what a normal person would say including Gungan sayings. I'd say that's a bit more than pandering.

yeah, Is just what I have seen, there are people that love this show. And then there are some nerds that are insulted by it.

I gave this show a chance when it came on TBS, watched like 10 episodes but I found it completely un-funny. I got all the referances and the story is easy to hop in on, I get everything, the relationships, who works where on what I just didn't find anything about it remotely interesting, edgy, or new. I've seen the plots a million times in all the other genric sitcoms, it's just "Friends" with geek referances.

I didn't hate it, I just don't get why it's popular.

I personally don't like shows that have a laugh track. I feel they are insulting to the audience intelligence.
I mean laughing on command wtf is that all about?

Anyways as for the show itself, sometimes it is funny, sometimes it is annoying. The earlier episodes before everyone got a girlfriend were funnier to me, and better written. Once the cast got bigger and they found gfs for each guy the show started to get annoying.

There are some really cool episodes but I stopped watching after a while, it almost felt like they dumb the show down a little bit.

I like the shows humor, Raj and Howard are my two favourite characters; i honestly wouldn't mind if they made a spinoff just featuring those two guys perpetually trying and failing to pick up women. But like a lot of guys i take issue with the use of stereotypes; for every witty, smart joke theres one that, to me, plays to the publics misconceptions on what nerds are like.

You have to admit, there's a lot of misunderstandings as to what we do, and whilst this show portrays "nerds" in a positive light, which i appluad; it doesn't do mch to dissuade some of the more negative steroetypes.

Also there's the matter of sheldon, i don't understand this trend in american sitcoms where there has to be one insufferable ******* character who treats the rest of the cast like **** and pretty much gets away with it scott free. Thats not funny, thats terrible. The only way i could find these sorts of characters funny if i was using them to live out some deeply embedded ******* fantasies.

Eh. The stereotypes are funny. Everybody's way too sensitive. The real point of the show is that everybody's got a bit of nerd in them ... even Penny, with her Hello Kitty shorts and stuffed animal collection.

Its a bit like Jeff Foxworthy's theory on rednecks (which he defines as 'displaying a glorious lack of sophistication'). His theory is that almost everybody is a redneck to some extent, either part-time or full-time. His example is that there isn't a red-blooded man in the world that, when he drops his boxers/ briefs, doesn't catapult them up in the air with his feet and try to catch them. Glorious lack of sophistication. Heh.

On TBBT ... I kinda like Kripke. The rival scientist with the funny speech impediment. He's really the only one that won't take Sheldon's crap. The episode where he and Sheldon go to a rock-wall is hilarious ... "He was just hanging thewe wike a big sawami" (like a big salami). Relatively masculine, compared to the rest of the regulars ... and completely unapologetic.

They should work that guy in more.

I love the show. I've watched it from day one. One of the few shows on TV that I enjoy. Don't care if no one else likes it.

I wish they would play up the stereotypes even more. I don't like Howard getting married and them all getting girlfriends... less "real" lives and more trips to the comic book shop. :)

And my favorite "other" character is Sheldon's mom. The way she is just so blatant with her religion is hysterical.

I gotta agree. I know the producers love having women on the show but I think they'd get more stories if they got rid of the girls again.

I really like that they added the girls. It adds a really fun dynamic to the show so I want them to keep them, but I want to see more trips to the comic book store just to see what products will show up.

His mom is awesome! She's so over the top it cracks me up.

did anyone see the latest episode? It was like an advertisement for Sideshow, during a few scenes.

Haha ya I did, I thought that was funny. It is unfortunate that a majority of the people who watch this show don't care or would never buy stuff like that. It is also as shame they can't seem to somehow mention the name, or at least have a billboard in the background so the 1% of viewers who would buy might know who makes them.

Sideshow would probably have to pay for that, and it would be steep. Plus, are they allowed product placement (with names) on TV yet? I know you used to not be able to do that. You could show a Coke can, you knew it was a coke can, but it couldn't say Coke on it.

Interesting, that I did not know.

Seinfeld used Snapple and Kenny Rodgers Chicken (among others) so I guess if you pay enough you can.

Oh, you can absolutely do product placement of tv shows. There was an entire episode of Smallville that was literally based around Stride chewing gum. It was one of the most blatant and embarrassing examples of product placement I've ever seen.

Hey everyone. I'm the guy who is largely responsible for the swag on Big Bang Theory. As most of you know, I've done a lot of work for ACME and years ago I arranged a meeting for ACME with the woman who does the set design on the show. I work in Hollywood and had a previous relationship/contact with her. She loved what ACME does and we struck a deal with the show. Most of you have noticed the ACME pieces in Leonard and Sheldon's bedrooms as well as in the comic shop on the show.

I was invited to a taping of the show a few seasons ago and while I was there I gave them some references to Sideshow. While I left it at that, clearly they made contact from there and lo and behold Sideshow's now all over the set. Woot!

P.S. You'll notice some ACME pieces on the set of Two and a Half Men also. Same woman does those sets.

Well done [tip o' the hat]. My wife loved the 1:1 Vader and she asked if I had it ordered--- she never blinked when I told her the price followed by an obviosu "no".
