Big Boss vs. Jack Bauer

I can't vote because I haven't watched a single episode of 24, but can anybody answer me this: Why did Kiefer Sutherland used his Jack Bauer voice in MGSV whilst he was perfectly capable of doing a different voice like he did in an episode of The Simpsons? I know I've seen a ton of gripes that Snake was just Jack Bauer. :dunno

Man, I have no idea. Maybe Kojima requested that Kiefer use his own voice for Big Boss :dunno. The man has had some odd sense in directing, as of late.

And in case any of you guys are interested, Hulu has last night's episodes for free streaming :duff.

That's stoopid. Just because Avi Arad said so? I mean, his voice in The Simpsons was great, he indeed is capable of doing other, distinctive voices. It's tiring to see movies and games getting celebrities to voice characters because all they do is play themselves. Remember, Jack Black won the best VA in videogames from the Brutal Legend game, defeating Mark Hamill as the Joker. Yikes.

It wouldn't surprise me if Kiefer will be voted VA of the year, oh the world we live in.

I think Kiefer regards MGS as being just an interesting side-project, and couldn't care less if he uses his own voice or something else, and I find it interesting that he has never even explicitly said "Metal Gear Solid" in any of his interviews :lol. I hope that 24 continues after this season, and he'll have a good excuse to give Kojima the shaft if he gets called back for a MGS 6.

Kojima: Herro, iz zis Kifa Suzer-rand?
Kiefer: Oh, hello, Kojima-San.
Kojima: Kifa, I... wud... rike u work witz me... on MGS seekusu
Kiefer: Ah, I see. I'm sorry, but I'm very busy doing some filming on set right now. I don't believe I'll be able to spare the time.
Kojima: But.. I need u. We r... picking up rice where... MGS V reft off.
Kiefer: I'm so sorry, I wish I could spare the time. I hope you understand.
Kojima: Okay... sank u.
Kojima: Where izz Dabidu Hata's numba again..

And Jack Black winning against Hamill was the lowest of lows :slap.

Hamill was kinda pissed about that and spoke about it with Kevin Smith. Kevin asked him, "What did he play?" and Hamill replied, "Well.. Jack Black." :lol

Anyway, I think you know Kiefer better than most of us. I know he isn't a gamer and that his nephews were the one who introduced him to the games. Do you think he's the type of guy who would indulge in the MGS lore for research in order to play Fake Boss? (that's what I'm calling him now). Similar how Heath Ledger locked himself in a room reading Batman comics.

That's hilarious! Mark Hamill had every right to be pissed off at that. Jack Black is very overrated. I seriously wonder how he even started acting in the first place. It's like whatever director, decided to pull some loud-mouthed, unkempt, drunkard/junkie off the street and give him starring roles in movies. That's how I view Jack Black.

All things considered, I'd say that Kiefer took the role of Big Boss seriously. He flew to Japan, did some photo shots with Kojima, and there were even some videos with him doing the motion capture (which we've all seen). But, he's not a voice actor by any means. His delivery in Ground Zeroes was filled with so many awkward moments, I couldn't help but think to myself, "Yup, Hayter would have done that better".

Kiefer is Jack Bauer and David is Snake/Big Boss. They both excel at their respected roles, but neither of them should do the other's job.

But, as to whether he researched the lore and storylines of MGS... I'm not actually sure :lol. He was given very few lines in Ground Zeroes, and it'll most likely be the same with MGS V. It makes me think, maybe not? :dunno It doesn't seem as if it was really a requirement for him to research MGS.

It'll be a good question to ask in an interview.

Fixed.

Sorry, I'm a culturally insensitive bastard. :rotfl

We took up sniffing gRue and painto. You have to afteR those ungodRy cosplays I had to judge. What do you think Snakku spRays on ris body aryway?

But seriously, before this thread gets Sandbox'd it would be nice to have some side-by-side comparisons and statistics with Big Boss and Bauer. Like, overall kills, number of times tortured, most comrades lost, etc.
