I think it is lens distortion. The photo that's a little more pulled back has less eye distortion than the closer-up photo.

There's always this one person who takes super close up photos before anyone else, posts then, and throws the entire 1:6 world in a tizzy with terrible, lens-distorted pictures! They nearly single-handedly ruined the sales of the Resident Evil Mila figure by posting horribly distorted photos which caused everyone to cancel their preorder! For heaven's sake, someone confiscate their camera! :panic:

I do hope it's lens distortion because Sherlock does look odd. The overall effect is that it gives him an odd expression. Still tons of chances to tweak. Overall, though, I'm loving the look of these.

Uhh, Big Chief posted them on their own Facebook page :lol

Then they shot themselves in the foot!

Seriously though, that Sherlock wonky eye looks pretty bad. It's most likely just lens distortion, but it would probably be a good idea for them to post a proper photo!

frankly. I don't care. I know the sculpt is awesome so if I gotta do a little repaint I'm ok with that. just WANT THEM already!!!!

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. And the lens distortion is more about how the whole eye is lifted up and to the left, more than it is about the iris/pupil being off center.

One word: REPAINT!

I just finished watching all the Sherlock episodes last night. Put it off because I hated Sherlock Holmes as a child and figured I wouldn't enjoy the show. Holy bananas, was I wrong. Seriously tempted by these two. If I do buy them, though, they'll be going to an artist straightaway to get repainted. BC's paint jobs are okay, but just not on the level I want them to be if they're gonna be displayed near my Hot Toys.

Are the eyes painted? I think they should start using glass eyes, might drive the price up but imo no matter how good your paint is it won't have anything on glass eyes in terms of realism.

Dunno if anyone here collects BJDs, but have you seen this girl's sculpt of Sherlock? Looks quite nice. Obviously it's more of a doll-like head than a straight up, as-humanly-accurate-as-possible 1:6 head, but I still like it. Kinda tempted. She has one of Watson too.

Is it just me, or does the skin texture look a little funny? Very bumpy.

If you're referring the the BCS head, then yes, I agree. Trevor Grove's style is very 'defined' for lack of a better term. I like to believe that it is because he has become accustomed to OVER-carving his sculpts, to account for the detail loss in the production process. But, when he offers the resin sculpts to the boards, that aren't molded and cast in PVC, they look odd because noses and lips and creases in the face look very harsh.

I do think it's funny however that people are commenting on the paint-up. Obviously, it's Greggo's work, and if he had simply posted it himself and said "Here's my new paint-up", it would've been showered with praise. There's a huge double-standard for work from "companies" compared to "customizers".

Really excellent sculpts on both pieces. I'm sure they will look more lifelike in production once they're cast in that translucent plastic just like the Matt Smith figure. Paint looks really nice as is though imo.

You think so? I guess it's because I pay zero attention to customizers that I don't care. I just respond to what is in front of me. But, I have to say, I think he looks great other than the eyes do seem to need a little tweak. I can't wait for these! I wonder if we'll see them in 2013, still?

There's an extreme level of sycophantism in the customs section, to such a degree that it turned me off to customs altogether.

Well, when was the last time a person posted a figure they made and someone said "That's disappointing", "I've seen better", or "That could use some more work"??

I was just lamenting the fact that people are pretty quick to criticize a 'product'. I mean, people keep asking for updates and want to know what's going on, and BCS posts a WIP painted head and you read "Looks inbred", "That's disappointing" . . . doesn't give a company much incentive to post previews if they just get trashed.

The alternative then would be to not post any previews and just wait until the figure is released and then good or bad have people either praise or trash it "AS IS", but from the company's perspective they don't care as long as it gets produced and sold whether the customers/potentials customers will be receptive to it?
