I often think people are way over-critical of head sculpts. There are times I just don't see it. At the same time, I think constructive criticism is helpful. It's a set of outside eyes that might give the people making it some good feedback for tweaks. I actually think the reception to these head sculpts has been largely positive, especially on Facebook. I tend to think, in general, people are more likely to be more critical of something they are (or could potentially be) paying for versus a custom that someone might be doing for fun or for one buyer, and I imagine that buyer will be happy with the custom or wouldn't be paying for it.

You raise two good points here JonWes. The general consensus does indeed seem to be positive now that these are in the public awareness. I was lucky enough to see them last summer at the NEC summer fair so I knew of them of quite a while.

I do think it's funny however that people are commenting on the paint-up. Obviously, it's Greggo's work, and if he had simply posted it himself and said "Here's my new paint-up", it would've been showered with praise. There's a huge double-standard for work from "companies" compared to "customizers".

@ Swedish Heat. I think that whilst what you are saying might be true in more general, broader terms, in this particular instance and this pair of sculpts, it was pretty well known that this was a Greggo paint-up on a Trevor Grove sculpt. So the disparity you describe does not really exist quite in the way in which you describe it.

This is a good point. I also think that we are comparing apples with oranges. Customisers tend to be gifted amateurs, whereas a production figure is produced by a professional company. We have different expectations from them. What we might say "Oh, well done!" to in the custom section might not meet our expectations when it is being presented as a professionally-produced figure.

Agreed. The expectation levels are different.

This doesn't look any worse to me than the images seen last summer. Not sure why Greggo was so keen on keeping those under cover.

Well, when was the last time a person posted a figure they made and someone said "That's disappointing", "I've seen better", or "That could use some more work"??

I was just lamenting the fact that people are pretty quick to criticize a 'product'. I mean, people keep asking for updates and want to know what's going on, and BCS posts a WIP painted head and you read "Looks inbred", "That's disappointing" . . . doesn't give a company much incentive to post previews if they just get trashed.

I m pretty sure the majority of us here have always been aware of who painted these sculpts.

Some detail is always lost in the molding process, so... just a guess... maybe they are exaggerating the skin texture a bit so it comes out right after molding? The 11th Doctor protos had a very rough texture to them that didn't make it to the final figure.

In the words of the immortal Arthur Fonzarelli, "Exactamundo!"

The texture will soften during the molding process.

I think it looks pretty good.

But that is... if you have lowered... *cough* suitable expectations.

I mean... this is at best, Sideshow quality, and if you had those expectations to begin with, its not bad.

I think the finished product will be in line with Sideshows Star War's human figures... and if the price is around $80- the price is acceptable to me.

Also, the final price you pretty much have to multiply by 2, cause you know you have to have a Watson to go along with it.

Well the 2 Doctor Who's so far have been at £150-170 ...
....but I guess just for insane giggles they might just price this at $80 !

Well, but the sculpt is gorgeous. If you look at the unpainted pictures, it's just fantastic and really spot on imo. So I'm thinking a repaint will fix any issues. Curious to see how the outfits turn out...

Sherlock was filming in Bristol last night, in the same square used in the Doctor Who Christmas special.

But beware, any reports from this location tend to contain a MAJOR spoiler.

Apparently the Forbidden Planet website has sent out the following email to people who had the 'Dynamix' Tenth Doctor on preorder:

Doctor Who: Dynamix Ultra Stylised Figure: 10th Doctor QTY 1

Unfortunately, the suppliers have informed us that this item has now been discontinued and they cannot supply us with this product. Our apologies for the delay to informing you of this, we had hoped to complete this for you.

Now that the Who thread has been locked there's nowhere else to post this (I'm guessing we're still permitted to discuss Big Chief in this forum, or has that been outlawed completely?).

And no, I'm not panicking over this. It means nothing out of context (the context being BC's financial situation, which none of us know) and could be a great move - BC focussing on core products and streamlining their output. That's what I'm hoping!

Well I would love to know where they got that from, that is not true at all the Dynamix 10th Doctor figure is still coming out and it's currently starts manufacture very soon.

Yeah I thought the announcement was strange since BC said on a recent Podcast that 10 was very much a go as is 11.
