Cucumberpatch was on Wossy a couple of weeks ago. You are right. That was a missed opportunity. I am sure he will be back, though, when Series 3 launches.

Well, that's the time to ring up the production office and say 'would you like Ross/ Norton/ whoever to confront one of the biggest stars in Britain with his 12 inch doppelganger... just imagine the jokes you can write about holding 12 inches of Cumberbatch, etc.'

Damn, the US airdate has been announced before the British one - Sunday January 19th on PBS, whatever that is.

PBS in the States is short for Public Broadcast Station. The PBS stations are broadcast over the air. It's the same station where we can watch Downton Abbey and is publicly funded through donations.

Sherlockology were saying that it is the tradition of Auntie Beeb not to announce air dates until a few weeks before. No idea why. Enables them to change schedules, I guess. But that at least gives us an indication of the latest we will see it in the UK.

Finally the signature Sherlock has sold out! And obviously purchasing the signed pair is gone too so Watson by himself is all that remains of the signature figures.

Jonathon Ross is one of the biggest action figure collectors on the planet.

Whilst you're waiting, this has just been posted on Sherlockology.

The first chance to see the new series of Sherlock will occur this year.

On Sunday December 15 2013 at 13:00GMT, the British Film Institute will show S3E1: The Empty Hearse in a public screening at the National Film Theatre on London's Southbank, ahead of the yet to be announced first television airing in the UK on the BBC. The premiere will be followed by a Q&A with members of the cast and crew who will be in attendance.

The BFI listing also carries the first synopsis for the opening episode of the new series:

Two years after the devastating events of 'The Reichenbach Fall', John appears to have got on with his life. New horizons and romance beckon. But, with London under threat of a devastating terrorist attack, Sherlock is about to take John at his word, staging his resurrection with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it, though, he's in for a very big surprise...

Public Tickets are set to go sale on November 12 2013 at 11:30GMT.

BFI members can book from November 6 2013 at 11:30GMT.

The screening is effectively a repeat of the premiere of S2E1: A Scandal in Belgravia, which premiered at the BFI on December 7 2011, almost a month before the first television airing on January 1 2012. Tickets for that event sold out within hours of being released.

LOL - you will be like us! :) I'm looking forward to your pictures.

I wasn't able to secure these but when they start shipping I might email BCS and see if there are any signature cancelations. It worked for 11, so I'm not really all too worried here.

I just looked through my emails and saw that their Fourth Doctor figure went up for preorder at the beginning of July, and will be here before Christmas - so, around six months from PPO to delivery, or half the time Tennant will take. Great to see BC are getting faster - I wonder if this means we'll see Sherlock in a similar length of time (April?). They should get a load more preorders once the series starts showing (in January presumably) especially if they manage to get any mainstream publicity for the figure.

Hope you have better luck getting a hold of them. I preordered a regular 10th Doctor figure but wanted to be put on a waiting list for a signed one. Emailed them in April and never ever got a response. Just emailed them again and posted on their Facebook, still nothing. Trying to contact BC seems to be a massive hit or miss.

I would really love a date for this, even a vague one... especially now that we know the series is back on BBC1 on New Years Day.

Originally, didn't they say they'd be out before the new season or something? I seem to remember some vague comment like that. I mean, I don't think that's going to happen NOW, but I do remember thinking that the time between pre-order and release was hinted as being a great deal less this time.

That obviously can't happen now but I'm sure it would help sales if a definite date was given while the figures had 'entertainment support' ie during the media blitz that is sure to accompany transmission. I've heard that the last episode will end on yet another cliffhanger - Gah! - and I could even see that as being good for sales, as people try and connect with the show in its absence by buying the figures.

With the Fourth doctor they've currently halved the production time of figures from a year for Ten to six months, which is all good news (Yes, good effort BC! Jolly well done!).

Sherlock and Watson are 'in production' according to the big BC post at 'Le Website de Pariscub, that ****-faced Arsehole'.

Hope they mean that and it really is in production... it would brighten up the winter no end to know Sherlock was coming.
