I definitely see your point there, but I kind of liked that they tried to bend those points. To me that's more future proofing than what Skyfall did and my main criticism , of that very good movie is that it relied too heavily on nostalgia and wink wink nods to the old movies.

It felt kind of like both a sequel and a remake sort of thing like the new Halloween movie.

I mean its cute to see the DB5 and all and I think Skyfall did a good job at being a wonderful film (as did Halloween), but to me it's a fine line and a dangerous game to play as you can make a mockery of the franchise really quickly.

I agree Wor Gar!

And many may not agree with me but this is why I really think Spectre was an underrated film. To me it was classic Bond.

Beautiful locations and super stylish art/costume direction? Check
Lumbering brute of a villain in Dave Bautista? Check
Great cart chase? Check
Charismatic and evil mastermind villain played by a memorable actor in Waltz? Check
Train /fight sequence? Check
Big super villain lair that gets blown up? Check

I liked Spectre a lot too and was lucky enough to read the leaked script, where Blofeld was much more sinister. My main issue with it is that there was no 'ticking clock' at the end, no caper. Say there was a conference of world leaders in London at the end and Bond finds out Blofeld is going to kill them all, putting all the deputies and vice-presidents - all SPECTRE men - into power... leaving Blofeld ruling the world! A ticking clock where the stakes are that high would have been compelling. And that's something the Brosnan films always had over the Craig films, they were written to end seconds from catastrophe which made them exciting. But Craig's films have no stakes.

As for BCS and Bond, the line after GF should have been - TSWLM naval outfit Bond, Craig closing moments of Casino Royale Bond, Thunderball Jetpack Bond, Afghan Dalton, Ski Chase Lazenby, Goldeneye Brosnan, YOLT Blofeld with white cat, Moonraker spacesuit Moore. All those would have sold. Nothing else will.

Yeah, I didn't care for the DB5 wink-wink bit in Skyfall. I mean, what did it mean -- that Bond had already had his adventure with Goldfinger? It's very confusing when you try to work it out. It's the future mixing with the past -- crossing the streams !!!

I've always been in the camp that prefers no self-referential material in a movie... and no wink-winks... I generally hate them in all movies.

I agree with the totality of this post.... except for the Moonraker Moore. :)

I liked SPECTRE alot more than most- it had a different, odd tone and Blofeld was handled superbly until the end when he was running from Bond. Too easy and cliched for my taste. He should have had many more tricks up his sleeve than go to prison!

I agree Bond has his own ultra heighten world to play in. The first few Bonds set the tone. Nothing else compares.

I agree with most of these although I would prefer Dalton in his tuxedo from TLD which switches up into his stealth sniper gear (even though I believe it was an off the rack suit it's about the only time Dalton doesn't look scruffy or like he is wearing an ill fitting suit). Jaws from TSWLM I think would be a definite seller. I could imagine that Red Grant, Alec Trevelyan and Scaramanga would do fairly well on the villian side as well. If you were going to introduce some more of the bond ladies, I'd suggest M, Tracy and Vesper as all of them left an impression on their respective Bond(s) and would make good companion pieces. I will be sad if the line is done because that bond sculpt we have for Connery is great and both Goldfinger and Oddjob turned out well.

I agree with what others have said about Bond just having a bit more style and substance about it than MI.

Raymond you've convinced me to watch spectre again, I've only seen it the once at the cinema (which makes it my least viewed bond, that's right I've seen die another day, Octopussy and quantum more than it ... I am ashamed lol). I hoped for more at the time but was left a bit disappointed especially when I thought that was the way Craig was bowing out of the role. I didn't really take to the convenient (but rather hamfisted) attempt to retroactively tie all the quantum plots into spectre, that and the Bond girl seeming way too young (Roger Moore just got about got away with it but Craig really can't make that work) and the Blofeld motivation was a bit lame (my daddy loved you more than me, it's your fault bond grr so I'm going to set up a super secretive crime syndicate to get my very personal revenge on you grr). There were many good moments to it as well and the opening was great but those lasting impressions have really stuck with me.

:lol

Making Blofeld Bond's "brother" was a real stretch for me. And not in a good way. I kept thinking Blofeld would reach out and say: No... I am your "brother".

That kind of schmaltz is great for Star Wars, not so good for Bond.

Are you saying you wouldn't buy this?!?

Not certain why, but i could really see Henry Cavill slot in to the role after Craig departs. Was'nt sure about his acting skills through MoS and the like, but i personally think he could be a good one in the future franchise. You guys?

Out of the names currently being suggested he would be my preferred choice. He seems to embody many of the different qualities of previous Bond's. He has the physical presence of Craig, charm and cheese of Moore and Brosnan and the steely coolness of Dalton (and bond from the novels) when required. Man from uncle made me think he had potential and he definitely looks like Bond to my mind.

I always picture Moore in the yellow jumpsuit from Moonraker but I way prefer the look you've posted Tom.

I just went into the ER 2001 thread and saw the photo of the silver moon suit [custom?]... isn't that identical to the space suit Moore wears in the Moonraker promo shots I posted earlier? And does that mean he's wearing one of Kubrick's 2001 space suits?!?

I always loved the story about Bossk wearing an outfit originally worn in the 10th Planet (a 1966 Doctor Who story) I would love it if it was the same suit!

I always thought the silver suit used in the promo shots was the same suit worn by the Space Marines. It would be cool if there were a 2001 connection, even if it’s just inspiration.

I’d say, inspiration .
The yellow spacesuit that Bond wears is ok, but the silver space marines suit was cooler.
However, I’ve always loved the main poster design for MR.

I'd love a cheesy astronaut Moore and would buy one for sure, but Moonraker will forever still SUCK haha.

Except the stunning set designs and great space battle at the end- this has to be the most epic Bond but it's so bad it's good
