I always thought the silver suit used in the promo shots was the same suit worn by the Space Marines. It would be cool if there were a 2001 connection, even if it’s just inspiration.

The connection is the film's designer- Harry Lange- he did the spacesuit designs for 2001 so there you go- alot of the space hardware in Moonraker echoes 2001(space station, etc)

Wow, thank you for that fact...that’s an incredible connection!

Yes, thank you - I went and looked at his wikipedia page and found something else that was incredible - he used to design spaceships for Nasa alongside Werner Von Braun (!).

Moonraker had so much going for it visually, it's a shame they crashed the script into dialogue from a Carry On film. Anyone who wants to read a good Bond novel should pick up the novelisation, it reads just like Fleming.

Now I'm hoping that DiD will do a Moonraker spacesuit Bond.

That would be awesome- as corny and cheesy as Moonraker is the designs and space stuff are truly amazing.....

As far as i can tell, DiD does not have the licence to do Bond figures as such, just Moore's likeness. We may see other versions of him in generic outfits, bearing similarities to certain movies. As much as i want a Yellow Moonraker suit, it's probably too "on the nose" to be viable. Moore's the pity. :wink1:

I’m sort of happy with my Sideshow Moonraker Bond. Tried to fit the suit onto the DID figure but it didn’t really work. So I switched it back over.
Recently been looking at the Moonraker poster a lot, and I do think that the Bond on the poster would make a great figure. Unlikely to see that happening tho.
In mean time I completed my 007 CD set today. I bought DC’s 1st outing, Casino Royale which I somehow never got around to getting till now.

After listening, I felt like I should watch the movie from the Blu-ray 50th box set. Hadn’t seen it since seeing it at the cinema.
Quite enjoyed it: so I decided to continue the story, and watch QoS. Again, hadn’t watched it since seeing it at the cinema. I remember not being impressed by either of them.
Watching them back to back did kind of create a 4 hour epic. And it worked for me.
4 hours of 007, crisps and beer.

DiD could do a 'generic' space suit - that looked just like the Moonraker one - and put their Moore likeness in it. They would just leave off the 007 name tag at the front to get over the rights issues.

Got my DiD Roger Moore today from Cotswold. It has Moore's signature on the box and also carries the signature of Terry O'Neill. Guess that's the famous portrait photographer? Were his photos the control art?

Anyway, I gasped when I opened it. The pressure is on, Big Chief.

If it's not good for thread theme here, please give me some feedback in pm or FB about likness in hand etc.

My quick review on the Moore for you gido:

Very good overall likeness, mediocre paint job, unmistakably DID in overall finish (hard brittle PVC plastic lacking a bit of refinement, slight overall gloss, a bit too orange )

Overall 7/10 for the head alone

The rest of the figure is about a 6/10 bad body, nice turtleneck. Bad suit, nice holster and gun though they are completely inaccurate to LALD.

It can definitely be topped by big chief or even just custom pieces... but the head is worth picking up, ideally loose and on its own. The rest can be skipped.

Overall it’s a 6.5/10

Thanks, Raymond!Could repaint may do even better likness? Will you repaint yours one? And, if I may to ask, maybe some in hand pics of head? In pms maybe

Sure! I’ll shoot you some over fb messenger later today when I take a bit of “figure time” :)

I think a repaint would definitely help yup! I hadn’t really thought about it but I may repaint mine now that you got me thinking about it.

Not sure how familiar you are with DID qualify but they have a really distinct look to their figures, not anything in the realm of hot toys. Way more harsh in a way. I actually prefer the plastic big chief uses also. Problem with big chief is the paint, I’d say DID is better on paint but neither are top industry standard by a mile.

The difference is if I were to repaint the big chief (assuming the plastic is the same as the first wave) I’d paint directly on the plastic without a base coat, but DID is so orange that I’d want to put a base coat on it which always changes things slightly but I actually think it might help this. Some of the problems are oversized pours (which a lot of Rocco’s sculpt have)

I think if you take the production heads for both and strip the paint away you will be left with a pretty decent inigo sculpt which can’t go further than LALD and a decent Rocco sculpt which is more appropriate for say, TSWLM or around that age.

Thanks!Very helpful info. Will wait for details in FB about DiD. But Moore sculpt isn't made by Inigo ;)
