I think Chris Pratt with a mullet might be able to pull off a Jack Burton. Not so keen on the Rock. Keen to see what they do with the three storms though. One of my favourite things in the original.

My real thoughts when I heard the news today

Interesting to see how this turns out, but I doubt it will be better then the first.

One of my main questions is, Is the Rock going to be able to go against type? Can the Rock let himself play a bumbling, oafish, incompetent, blow-hard. With the original, the suits didn't understand what Carpenter and Russel were doing with the character. They thought Burton should be more of a traditional hero. I just wonder if the Rock will play Jack as just another run of the mill action hero. This reboot just sounds like a bad idea from start to finish.

Not enthused about a remake. Doubly not enthuse about the Rock playing Jack.

I've been doing construction and driving many many years...I have yet to meet a truck driver that looks anything like the Rock.

He's going to be a brawny tough guy truck driver doing the people's elbow on Lopan...

It's one of a few movies that can't transition out of the 80s. Who cares about exaggerated Chinese mythology in the 21st century? The original was still in the era of Kung Fu films, and nowadays that type of genre is next to dead in the mainstream. It's all comic book diarrhea everywhere, and bloated big budget CGI nonsense.

But like with most remakes, they come and go and no one remembers them. Robocop wasn't bad at all, but do I ever care if I never see it again? Not at all.

Yeah, barely made half it's budget. But they're just sitting on the rights for it, and there is no other way to leech any money out of it really, outside of slapping together a lazy film. Hollywood is just repeating the same patterns over and over, creativity is almost nonexistent.

Means if JAWS gets remade we definitely know that Hollywood and a original idea has died.
Not at all. It would just mean that 1 movie out of hundreds is something you've seen before. Anyone who uses the "Hollywood is out of ideas" argument, is about as far from making an original thought as they can get.

Wow, you are angry today. I just think he means that Hollywood still has some creative integrity. Some films are too classic even in Hollywood's eye to reboot/remake. Jaws, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Godfather... just to name a few.
People read too much into things. It's not anger, it's befuddlement over people who choose to be so ridiculous. The selfish, myopic outrages of men who want everything to be like it was when they were boys is tiresome.

And all of those movies you named have been remade many times, just not directly.

All out of Prep H probably.

Posts the angry guy having a tantrum about a nostalgic B movie.

Man, your bloated intellectual musings and smelling your own farts is getting really, really old. People can be happy or unhappy about films and their remakes, that's their right.

But the constant whining and chest-puffing is also really, really old.
And, come on, we all prefer our own farts to those of strangers. You just never know what they ate. :horror

I kinda hope this movie makes $500 million now. And it probably will. And when it's all over I can still watch my blu-ray of the original and be content knowing that absolutely nothing has changed.

Blasphemy

You took the words right out of my mouth.

**** the ****ing Rock already. Another utterly pointless remake that won't hold a candle to the original. There's only one Jack Burton.

Who?

I like the Rock and all, but this movie needs to be left alone.

Who am I kidding, I'll probably go see it. No matter what, I can still enjoy the original whenever I want anyway.:lol
