Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn?)

Just saw this. My .02 cents: Margot Robbie is a great Harley, Ewan MacGregor is good, the diversity police in the casting and the changing of ALL of The Birds backgrounds and motivations was probably what bugged me the most. Come up with new characters if you want to change EVERYTHING about the originals, and call them something else — they didn’t need to be The Birds — they could have just been three bad-*** chicks.

Overall, I enjoyed it for Harley, and it was for the most part mindless fun. Thank God there were no shots of the worst on-screen Joker.

Not just her. Where was Oracle/Barbara Gorden (formerly Batgirl) — oh, yeah, she was replaced by a Latina Cop. So we got the current trifecta — White, Hispanic and Black. Oh, and an Asian orphan for all of them to protect. I’m not saying I didn’t like the actress playing the part, but when you take a comic book that starred 3 white chicks and change their race for no apparent reason, it becomes more than a bit like pandering overkill. I’m entitled to my opinion.

Went in with low to no expectations and they were exceeded. To quote James T. Kirk, it was... fun.

But these days I'll take anything that keeps the Snyderverse hanging around! My main takeaway was the expanded look at Gotham.

Yeah I’m surprised I really really liked this.

Margot was great. The direction was so much better than SKWAD. I really hope The Batman doesn’t reboot this universe, it seems like they just got into their groove.

I think these movies are lightly reboots. Batman I feel like will reboot the dceu continuity but harly Quinn is her own universe.

You only see him from behind, where he's wearing a purple striped suit which looked nice. It's the best shot in the movie IMO. His hair seemed a lot more green than it did in SKWAD too. It's still heavily implied to be Letoker but you never see his face. They show clips from Suicide Squad when Harleen jumps into the vat of chemicals but they crop Leto's head out of view. I forgot to read the credits to see if they list him.

There's also an animated short "origin of Harley Quinn" cartoon at the beginning of the movie where he's drawn as a comic accurate Joker.

I remember people who went to the test screenings said they used his deleted scenes from SKWAD, but they aren't present in the final cut. This scene was cut too where they used a stand-in.



Leto got cut out of another movie. Oof.

The trailers don?t make it seem interesting. I thought so aswell but I?m hearing it?s good. And wow another girl power movie bombing? Do the people who whine about not being enough of these movies actually, idk, SEE the damn film? It?s almost as if they just wanna whine to whine but aren?t fans of anything .

O we need a Harley movie instead of a joker. Harley movie comes out and it?s bombing

Even the marketing for the film is awful and confusing. The film is called Birds of Prey and the blah blah blah of Harley Queen. However, every tv spot I've seen calls the movie Harley Queen and Birds of Prey....as if most people above age 40 even know who Harley is anyway?

I even see them name dropping Joker so that people get that this is Batman related, like my dad, who saw a comercial, and said, "Oh that's one of those Batman characters, right?" I'm like, unfortunately, yes.

If you want a really good Harley show the animated one they have on DC Streaming is awesome... Kaley Cuoco does a great job voicing Harley... and the writing is really witty and funny... lots of gore and cussing so be warned

I've seen some of it. It's surprisingly good. I love that they're using movie Bane's voice, since Rises Bane is such a meme king.

I could not believe this was a theatrical release. It’s got the production value and cinematography of a Hallmark original, the fights are sub-Buffy from 20 years ago, two of the darker Bat villains are turned into silly fembros (and maybe a couple?) and jokes are 100% cringe.

I thought about walking out. I stayed because I like Zasz and Huntress back when I read comics and I like ME Winstead so I thought if nothing else they might have some cool moments during the finale. Huntress gets maybe the only unique action beat in the movie but is otherwise the butt of the joke in every scene. Zasz would be a spoiler, but not because something cool happens.
