If I were a student in a presentation of which something like this happened, I would expect someone else to rush to his aid - like a school official. Having tons of students run up to check on someone would be of no help. I'm upset that an official or someone else who is a doctor or nurse didn't help, but not upset with the crowd of students. I would've done the same thing they did - sat in my seat. And there's nothing wrong with that. I love how others pretend like they would've saved his life. :rolleyes2

I completely agree with this. But I think a lot of the rant is the that so many students immediately went to their smartphones to do the whole damn twitter thing. OMG I must tell the WORLD what I am doing right now because so many people care what I am doing! Look, I'm taking a dump! Yay!

And I also thought this was about Bill Nighy. :slap

I don't really see a problem with that, either. That's how news spreads. Smartphones let news travel faster, and I like that. I really don't understand why any of this is a problem. :dunno

In a way it's kind of sick and twisted and shows how as people we have become desensitized to violence and death. It shows zero concern for their fellow man. They are more interested in being the first one to post or tweet about something horrible. Almost as if to brag and say "I was there!"

if Nelson was there...

I still don't understand why tweeting about this sort of thing, especially when you cannot be of any assistance, is a problem. It's not sick or twisted when you can't do anything to help. If you have the ability to tell someone else that an event has happened, as opposed to sitting idly in your seat, then what's the problem? Your phone is there, you can't assist Bill Nye, so why not let others who are not present know something's up with him?

the problem was no one was assisting him. Instead of being on your phone be the first to do something, then tweet about it later. People's first reaction shouldn't be tweet or Facebook, sorry but that is a problem.

Exactly! Damn Agen that's some cold ____ there. Hopefully I'm not in need of help if I'm ever around you. I mean ____ I might be choking but hell at least your friends will be updated via your smart phone. :rotfl

That's just gay sorry! And so is this twitter crap!

Just because you have no moral code of conduct don't mean others don't. Oh some dude collapsed, better wait for a dumb-ass school official. These were not kids in kindergarten who were damn near helpless. (and you'd be surprised at what some of them would even do)

I might not have rushed to his aid because I was in shock or because I expected a school official to do it, but I sure as hell wouldn't think, "Damn, Bill Nye might have just died, or had a heart attack or something, I better get this out to the internet." That's just wrong.

normal reaction would suggest panic and anxiety to kick in...
the juveniles would probably react like what Nelson does...

getting psyched to tweet it as it happens.....that's de-evolution at play.:lol

I think Agen would help any of us if we were in trouble. I think you're misunderstanding what he's trying to say.

No I think I read it perfectly. If he didn't think he could help, rather than try, he would post on his twitter wall. :rotfl

As someone who is gay, I suggest you find some other descriptive word to let us all know how you really feel. I have plenty of morals. In a case like this, I would be of no assistance because I wouldn't know what to do. I have no medical training. The best thing for me to do would be to stay out of the way.

They are absolutely misunderstanding/misconstruing what I'm saying. If I was the only option, I would do my best to help. But in a room full of people, and as I said previously about me having no medical training, I just need to stay out of the way.

I would love to see any of these people claiming they'd jump up and save Bill Nye be in the crowd that day. My money says they would've done what everyone else in that room did. Besides, he was only out for 5 or 6 seconds - how the heck would anyone have reacted by that time anyway? Come on, people. The assertion that rather than help him people instantly got out their phones is ridiculous. In fact, there have been statements made against what the one student said about tweeting instead of helping.
