Gay doesn't have the same referent any more. But I know what you meant. :monkey3

Agen's right. 5 seconds? It would have been awesome to see the whole stage flooded with college kids pretending they knew what to do. :lol

As someone who is gay, I suggest you find some other descriptive word to let us all know how you really feel.

Surprising.

I'll use the word anyway i see fit. Take offense if you want to, just because you like ____ don't expect me to change the way i use any word for you.

I have no medical training either, but the last thing i would be thinking is how fast i can get this on Twitter. Guess that's the difference between you an I.

Really? Okay.

I don't see what's so difficult to understand about why you shouldn't use a term that someone identifies with in a negative or offensive way. "Gay" tends to be the go-to term, too. That and "retarded". No one says, "That's so black." or "Man, this rule is so Jew." What you're trying to say is, "That's so stupid." So, gay equals stupid? Being gay is stupid? Am I stupid because I'm gay? No. None of that is true. I don't think you believe that, either - but it's what you're implying.

Let's grow up, everyone. It's about doing the right thing. You will inevitably say things that offend people, I know this, but purposefully using terms and not caring who they hurt or offend is just downright insensitive.

(Not to mention other things you referenced, OSCORP, that are without a doubt inappropriate in this forum.)

You should blast him publicly on your twitter wall. :yess:

Sorry I couldn't help it! :rotfl

Haha, nah, my Twitter is used for better things...like complaining about a song I don't like, or telling you how good my Deathly Hallows seats were. :p I don't even use it too terribly much, maybe once every other day or so, if that. I must admit, I've been using it more frequently lately, though. Maybe this Bill Nye thing made me do it. :lol

As someone who is gay, I suggest you find some other descriptive word to let us all know how you really feel. I have plenty of morals. In a case like this, I would be of no assistance because I wouldn't know what to do. I have no medical training. The best thing for me to do would be to stay out of the way.

They are absolutely misunderstanding/misconstruing what I'm saying. If I was the only option, I would do my best to help. But in a room full of people, and as I said previously about me having no medical training, I just need to stay out of the way.

I would love to see any of these people claiming they'd jump up and save Bill Nye be in the crowd that day. My money says they would've done what everyone else in that room did. Besides, he was only out for 5 or 6 seconds - how the heck would anyone have reacted by that time anyway? Come on, people. The assertion that rather than help him people instantly got out their phones is ridiculous. In fact, there have been statements made against what the one student said about tweeting instead of helping.

You're still missing the point, no one helped all they did was tweet about it. I've got an idea instaed of the first reaction being a tweet how about a call to 911 or something. There you helped, you didn't leave your seat and you got to use your phone!

I'm not missing the point. The point is he was out for less than 5 seconds, so no one had time to react. It wasn't clear if he had just tripped and fell or passed out. He popped back up before anyone knew what had happened.

What's not entirely true? He was out for less than 10 seconds (reports vary, from a few to as much as 10.) After he popped back up, he appeared fine and even asked how long he was out for. He then continued with the presentation as planned. I don't think the crowd did anything wrong. Additionally, I love how the one audience member quoted as saying he was distressed and disappointed that no one went to Nye's aid also didn't hop up to help. :duh

actually there were many reports of him still swaying and slurring his speach after he "popped" back up. Yes the idiot who was distressed is no better than anyone else there.
