Who will you send your sculpt to by the way? I actually considered this over Jnix at the time. Haven't seen lots of painted samples. Curious to see how it turns out

I will most likely use Mark Simpson here in the U.K. as he is affordable - and cheap compared to the top painters! Mark is also local to me and very courteous and easy to get along with, I find. So, he is the convenient and economical choice for me.

I have a strong relationship with Mark Simpson and I find him very easy to get along and work with, which is paramount for me with this sort of endeavour, as I mentioned to you yesterday. Mark is one of, if not my favourite painter for Indy. I can only think of 1 other painter I might try in the future for Indy. I recently had Mark paint my new Stian Raiders 1.0 and I think it looks exceptional. Happy to share some photos with you in PM. So, I am going to discuss K with him and plan to use him. He is also doing my Jack Burton repaint and soon, my TOD Indy and then Stian Raiders 2.0.

Ironically, Vince showed me a painted copy of my same head and I thought it looked pretty bad. But raw, the sculpt looks superb to me, and that is what I go by to begin with. Vince actually persuaded me to purchase his new one, but I think that looks considerably worse than his 1.0, and it is more expensive. I purchased mine locally, anyway for less than either version.

I will revisit Jinx later, perhaps but I only really like it painted by Rahmier, thus far. I'm sure Mark will do a good job for my K that will satisfy me, and the good thing is, he is always willing to make any changes that you want and work with you. I will assume that Mark isn't used much by folks in the States due to his location, and so maybe they aren't as exposed to his work. Though, he was one of the most popular choices for folks who purchased Stian's Raiders 2.0 recently. That said, Ram has limited spots, so that could be one reason, if Mark was not their first choice. For me, for Indy, Mark has a refined style but maintains a naturalness and rawness, too, which is probably what I find stands out immediately to me. Whereas, as I have mentioned before, I find 357 to be too clinical and pure with how they paint their faces. I don't feel Mark over or under-paints Indy. He may not do eyes like the top painters, which from seeing photos online, I would describe as being more glassy and spit spot clean and perfect - like a good Hot Toys or other quality mass produced figure, I suppose. But they have soul and look convincing enough for me. I just love how he captures the likeness and essence of Indy and Ford.

I hope that helps.

EDIT: I edited my comment about Mark not painting the best eyes as I do think they are very good and for Ford, I find they really capture his essence. And so, maybe he simply paints them in a different style to some others is what I am seeing.

Oh that's right, yeah. Does he have an instagram page?

Raw sculpt looked good to me too. But not seeing enough samples held me back from getting it.

Yes, he does but I don't think he's used it in about 4 years, ha ha! He's a busy family man, so I actually admire his level of craft for this all the more.

I think a good painter will only turn a good sculpt into something special. That's the magic but scientific recipe.

Blackbox pants win for color.

And the shoes are better because...
Better scale, authentic material and lacing beat Supermad's sloppy sculpt and paint (Although I like that those are weathered).

Supermad wins for accessories.

i know black box uses pleather on the boots but forgot supermad is rubber or pleather.

as for pants, other than the color what about the pants itself is blackbox still better in terms of tailoring and design.

Good insights

By my approximation, the blackbox coat is a little wide, and the supermad is on the tighter end, whereas ideally, I think an accurate coat would fall somewhere inbetween.

Here you can go one of two ways.

You can try to tame the Blackbox coat as Steel Shields has done, and deal with a little extra bulk

Or stick it out with the Supermad coat, and deal with a little tighter fit around the sides and the sleeves.

There's definitely some fluff to the coat though, so it's a matter of sticking to one extreme, and working with what you have.

Personally, I hope that more options are made available.
i find the fur material on the blackbox too thick?

also in the movie is his pants rolled up. blackbox pants is rolled and really tight that i cant lower it further down the boots.

my concern with blackbox boots is the durability of the materials.

currently i have both so i am thinking which way forward and sell of the rest as full figure or parts.

now i look at it despite blackbox sculpt looks inferior it has more Gosling in it.

well how bout the holster? the black box holster seems horrible last i fiddled with it.

o
Yes, but as per my writeup above, you can more easily remedy that by applying the Supermad coat to a slimmer body, as I have done. Or, you can apply the Blackbox coat to a larger body, though as I said above, I am not sure what sculpts would work well with this. I do recall seeing one head that was larger, I think Threezero, but I don't like the look of it. Note that the screen-worn jacket has tight fitting sleeves.

Again, you don't need to stick to an extreme with modification, as per my writeup. In the above photo, Gosling is leaning with his right arm extended and left hand in pocket and to the rear-back a bit, thus you are seeing the jacket extended and fit looser and fanned out a bit.
another thing is keeping him scale accurate so he doesnt tower old man deckard. i find the neck too long for the blackbox, abit short for the supermad. i cant spend 1k on a custom head so i have to pick 1 from the 2.

have you considered narrow shoulder bodies? and cut the neck off the sculpt so you can use a necked body and solve the neck joint issue.

i need a side by side photo of real K, blackbox and supermad...

No need but thanks for the suggestion. As per my writeups, I made a simple custom neck adapter for my K and have chosen a body that I think works very well for the Supermad outfit, head and Gosling's anatomy. I have nice pivot, tilt and easy height adjustment for the neck, which is great and so I was able to get the neck height just right for Gosling.

Regarding height, Gosling is 1.84m tall and Ford is 1.85m. K's boots are slightly taller than Deckard's. So, in theory, they should be about the same height, which is what I uave achieved with my 2049 K and Deckard. I also keep parity amongst my figures and having checked, they are also on par with my other figures height-wise, for example.

I do have a DID body on the way I was going to try but I have exhausted the amount of times I want to handle the outfit now, especially the Velcro on the trousers. So, I will most likely stick with the AT020, unless I can get another Supermad outfit.

Have you tried looking on RPF for photos of the screen-worn outift? It might be on there. I've seen a video and or photo of the outfit on display somewhere. That along with analysis of the film and studio shoots should suffice to help you with your indecisions.

All the very best with it, @potato.

Oh, I should add, I tried the holster on my K but found it limited being able to have his arm as flat to his side, which is how I want him, so I took it off. It wouldn't be seen, anyway. The Supermad holster isn't quite screen accurate but I think it is good.

The eyebrows are killing that clean por sculpt. It's got great potential otherwise.
