Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I like Mccarthy. Think Heat is one of the funniest film over. Right behind stuff like Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Frankenstein Jr. Mckinnon I thought was the weakest link, but I thought they all did fine. It was the lame *** script that killed this film. I like empowered women, I have a daughter, I think it's important to see characters like that in film and literature. But this was just sad. Thing is, you don't empower anyone, but belittling someone else. If you write characters like that, then they just become obnoxious. And that was the new Ghostbusters. I think the female cast was a fun idea, great and funny actors. But the script... for the love of sweet jesus christ... it was horrible. And wrong. It was bad.
But I do think the cast saved as much of the film as they could. It's not a good film, but it ain't bad either. It ended up being one of those you forget. "Did I see that, oh yeah, now I remember, no, it wasn't good." Legend of Tarzan - now, that's a turd of a movie. Easily the worst I have seen this year (I avoid the obvious crap like ID4 2 asf.)
They could have done so much with the Ghostbusters franchise, and ended up doing so little. The worst actors in the movie (and my heart bleeds as I write this) was Bill Murray. He came with NOTHING. He gave NOTHING. Maybe he had an off day, maybe he couldn't be bothered, I don't know. If they ever remake Zombieland, the line should be: "Any regrets?" "No, well, maybe Garfield... no, strike that, the new Ghostbusters, yeah, I regret that."

Yeah man. Very bad movie. The only film I could tolerate McCarthy in was Bridesmaids. Loved that movie. We're getting a little bit off track in this forum, however good movie conversation is good movie conversation when you're up at 1:45 AM on the East Coast. Lol.

Unfortunately, the time for a third film has come and gone. I'll never understand why they thought a reboot was the better way to go, but it is what it is. I think now the best option would be some direct to dvd animated films. Hell, most of the cast from The Real Ghostbusters is still around, and could return to their roles. The first few seasons of that show really nailed the essence of that world, and those characters. With the right people involved I think they could make some really great, entertaining movies.

Unfortunately after the critical and commericial flop that the 2016 remake was i don't think theres any budget available or appetite in hollywood to make another ghostbusters movie, let alone a series of movies.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I didn't hate the reboot like most people do. I thought it was harmless and did enjoyed it for what it is. :lol

I liked it, even enjoyed the Robocop remake the other year, I try not to let the crowd make my decisions, there has been a lot of "terrible" movies that have been good/great.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I liked it as well. I just wish they went more the sequel route and had the original cast pass it along to the new one. The main 3 actresses I enjoyed alot. Leslie's character seemed a little out of place and not as funny as I thought the character would be.

I would agree with this.

I've never seen the film so I have no idea if it's actually good or bad, but I think the issue that most people had with it right away and why people were sort of turned off from seeing it is because the film makers essentially told the fan base that these are your new Ghostbusters now and that it has utterly no connection to the beloved 1984 film. Yet, they still tried to piggyback on the same things that the 1984 one had; the logo, for instance. Not sure if they still used RPJ's '84 Ghostbuster theme as well, since I've never seen it. Had this been a sequel and more of a passing of the torch, I think that would have sit better with Ghostbusters fans and would have been a bit more accepting and curious.

The film makers then subsequently calling the fan base sexist, racist and any kind of "phobe" they can think of for justifying why it was a flop, didn't help at all either.

Maybe not the fan base but to be fair there were some shocking and horribly sexist and racist things said about the actors. The 1st Busters is one of my all time favorite films and i had no interest in this film but some of the things said about the girls pissed me off.

No I totally agree with that, that's not what I meant. I recall Leslie Jones receiving a lot of hateful, reprehensible and uncalled for vitriol on Twitter. There's no place for that.

I was saying that the film makers called people things such as racist and sexist, for simply not seeing the film and as being the reason why people weren't interested in the film and why it flopped, which I think is equally uncalled for.

It's cool i understood what you were saying and agree with you. Just saying there were some issues with the other stuff.

Live action sure, but I I could see a market for an animated movie. Look at the DC animated films. I can't imagine those are huge sellers. Most of the people who buy them are likely actual DC fans, and not the general public, but they must be making some money as they keep making them. I could see an animated Ghostusters film, or series of films having similar success.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I think GB 2016 just came at a point where the masses had had enough of mindless reboots that the movie just became a target of a larger systemic problem.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

REBOOT'S Can be done well like Robocop ,Judge Dredd, oldboy, spiderman, halloween, batman ,superman and other's but most fail horribly like TMNT rewriting orgins storys is just not kosher to us die hard fan's.

I agree a passing of the torch would've gave better closure and not a huge shock to the fan's. I have nothing against starting new just this felt like a paycheck to MCcarthy n Jones to me. TOO much raw lame comedy and not enough built in suspense / drama or realism imo.

Yes i see the old films with comedy/ drama that something very bad could happen if didnt have the ghostbusters to call. I just wanted something to love not hate on or be able to watch with joy over n over.

The movie even started to try stay kinda serous of real ghosts but just felt like a bad cartoon story as went on. IDK what the hell Helmsworth part was ? I wish would've casted Annie Potts A.k.a Jeanine as moody secretary with past referalls lol. I just cant stand cheap rushed reboot storys with no heart for us fans.

:lecture This.

Reboots and sequels answering to shareholders and not moviegoers. Gonna break at some point. Been a highlighted problem since 2012 (the year, not the crappy movie :lol).

fanservice to attract new female audiences.

remember one main target for having all female cast is to try to get more females into Ghostbusters.

Same here, I liked the Robocop reboot as well, despite being obsessed with the 1987 original just like I am obsessed with the 84 GB. I thought Ghostbusters 2016 was fine, and I certainly had a good time with it. Would I buy figures of the movie? Hell no, but I've seen worse reboots.

Take Terminator Genesys. I just couldn't enjoy it due to the bad acting, lousy script, poor attempt at re-imagining the mythology and worse of all, it tried so hard to ape and one up the original. I think the Robocop and GB reboot were smart enough to know that they will NEVER be fit enough to wipe the shoes of their originals, so what they did is just have fun with the concept instead.

Just give me something new. I get really tired of old stuff "reimagined," regardless of how successfully redone it is.

I want to go to the movies to discover something new - not see what I already know updated. I know I'm in the tiny minority in this however. Less and less people remember the incredible experience of discovering Star Wars, Raiders, Gremlins and Ghostbusters - not based on anything, not remade from something, but born on the big screen right in front of you. It still happens from time to time - but way less than it did even 15 years ago.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I guess Hollywood are afriad of taking chances, and a brand is the safe way to go. And most people like more of what they already enjoyed. I like original too, but we are a minority. Instead of more Star Wars and Marvel and DC, I would rather see new universes unfold, new characters on the big screen, new adventures. People say it's getting harder and harder to be original. That's not true. It's just easier being lazy.

You are not alone i would LOVE to see more original stuff like what you mentioned but it seems almost everything is a sequel or a reboot. I did read someplace that part of the reason for the reboots is because of the ban China had on american films for decades and the reboots are more for them as they never did see the originals. Studios are making more money over there than here so we are a secondary market for some of these films.
