Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I think the female thing is overblown. Sure there were some nasty sexist/racist trolls but it's hard to avoid them on the Internet. Most just hated the idea of a sequel/reboot without the original cast.

I have no interest in the remake of this or robocop or seeing Arnold play a parody of the iconic character from Cameron's two part masterpiece.

It would be nice if Hollywood could leave these movies alone and do something original.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I personally think it depends on the film franchise and the characters being rebooted also.

For instance, I can understand highly iconic, worldwide recognized characters like Superman being introduced to new generations in a way that is relatable to their time and has the titular character dealing with the same societal issues that particular time is faced with. Cult classic, esoteric films like Ghostbusters, the BttF films, Star Wars or Star Trek, I feel don't ever need to be rebooted because they stand on their own through time. Star Trek and Star Wars can just be continued on and on in the same universe and timeline in my opinion without having to rehash the same characters that have already been depicted.

I agree with this.

Though I'm sure there's some who were averse to the fact that the cast was all women, I think the main issue for most was that they essentially said to move on from the 1984 Ghostbusters/pretend those never existed in this film and accept that this new group is the Ghostbusters now. Made it feel as if they were forced on you and the story of the beloved Ghostbusters of yesterday was never properly ended and the torch never properly passed. To me, all they had to do was merely make it within the same timeline and universe as the originals and it would have served as both a reboot and sequel to properly close out the originals.

The issue to me was GB '84 was SUCH a "guys" movie. It was that almost frat/smart*ss/dirty type guys humor (don't mean that negatively) that grew out of Animal House, David Letterman etc. that did have some sexism/misogyny, though not in any overt way like say the rap culture (where even today it's tolerated and even enjoyed without a word.)

To take a movie that embodied that ethos and cast it as all-female was clearly intended as a statement on how times had changed, but it was also somewhat of a betrayal of what was at the core of the original film. I think it's that feeling of betrayal of the original that got people so angry - along with a sense that PC-ness has gotten out of control. It's like the guys couldn't have some fun again.

Agree with this also. Without having expounded on that particular line in my post, this does so in adding onto why I feel as if it felt like this new group was sort of being forced on you. I couldn't help but further get that feeling when the film makers began to dismiss why it wasn't performing as well at the box office as they had hoped, by lambasting everyone who wasn't interested in seeing it by calling them racist and sexist.

There were plenty of comments of that nature but sadly that is the internet for you. It gives cowards a place to air their despicable views behind the safety of their screens, things they'd never say publicly. But I do feel an all new male cast would have been criticised and attacked almost equally, just without the sexist undertones. Look at the abuse Affleck got when he was first revealed as Batman, I remember being shocked at the level of personal abuse he was getting. The guy who played the T-1000(his name escapes me sorry) took a lot of flak when he briefly took over Duchovny's male lead in the X files.

I couldn't care less if the new cast were all female, all male or some kind of mix, it was just a bad idea from the start. I wouldn't want a movie with most of the original cast either, too much time has passed. I doubt it would fare better than the modern Terminator movies. Just leave it be and make something original.

These figures, when they release, are all the Ghostbusters nostalgia I need :)

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

The tricky part about making movies today is it costs a lot of money. A lot. Not just in paying actors and writers and the hundreds of people it takes to make the film but also advertising . There are some amazing movies being made but unfortunately you might not know it becuase they aren't advertised well or enough. Film is an art, but just like all art forms, it takes financial backing to make it happen and those people are in it to turn a profit. New can be risky. Remakes have a built in brand that can be utilized which means less risk even if the film isn't good.

I dunno if a male cast with Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill etc would have gotten the same degree of flak.

Affleck got flak because he's considered a bit of a joke, which started with "Gigli" over ten years ago but has dogged him since, through winning a Golden Raspberry for "Daredevil."

Another big issue is that the demographic for movies has changed. 20-30 years ago, big openings were driven by the 14-24 age group - whereas today it's older. It is very difficult to get 14-24 year olds to movie theaters for opening wkds these days - attendance for younger people has been declining, for older people increasing (though not at the same level as the young's decline.)

Younger people are always on the hunt for the new and cutting edge, whereas - generally - older people are more into throwbacks or stuff that's tried and true - stuff they know. The explosion of the 1/6 collectibles market in the past ten years - primarily based on pop culture brands going back many decades - sure isn't primarily driven by 14-24 year olds (at $220 a pop...:lol)

Exactly this. Like I said a couple of pages back, the big studios answer to shareholders. Those shareholders want a return on their money. A new, cutting-edge project is a hard sell. It's a risk. A risk that most times they're not willing to take. Remakes are an easy sell with guaranteed (almost) returns. All the shareholders understand "Ghostbusters" and the franchise that comes with it. It's a safe (safer) investment. But the wind is changing. . . slowly.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

You know the thread has gone dead when people are having arguments over the flop that was ghostbusters 2016

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I know can this conversation not take place somewhere else I keep thinking its a Ecto 1 update

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

I would disagree actually.

A thread goes dead when people stop posting in it and it gets relegated to previous pages. There's really nothing else to say at this point about the figures or Ecto-1 that we don't already know, so if the conversation was just limited to figures (final product wise) or a car that doesn't exist yet, the thread would truly go dead. When there is an update on either, I'm certain people here will be one of the first ones to know about it.

To keep the thread alive in the interim, people are still keeping the topic Ghostbusters related and having a civil discussion about it. I don't really see any arguments taking place.

:exactly::goodpost: Any talk about GB or related is better than no talk at all.

Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to control what other people post on an open forum. As frustrating as that is for you, it's just the way it is. you're better off following Blitzway directly if you want exclusive GB figure news etc.

You know the thread has gone dead when people are having arguments over the flop that was ghostbusters 2016

I thought it was indeed a very civilised discussion given the recent history of this forum :lol

I know there's always a temptation to start an argument re: GB 2016, but if you read the posts you're referring to, there was in fact no arguments over GB 2016 at all.

"I'd rather have a dead thread than have a discussion about GB while waiting months for an ECTO-1 update.":lecture:lol

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Yeah may as well shoot the breeze about anything remotely related to the films because I don't have high hopes for an early ish release. BBTS still doesn't have the fight club figures yet. Else this could be like the statue forums where it's crickets until a handful of people furiously burn up 2 pages commenting the day the product drops:)

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

Anyone that ordered from Timewalker on the payment plan get anything about the first payment yet? I know the first payment was supposed to be on November 1st, but I haven't received any e-mails regarding it.

Re: Blitzway - 1/6 Scale Ghostbusters - Collectible Figures and ECTO-1

How did they invoice you? I'm looking everywhere, and haven't seen an invoice. Not on my bank statement, Paypal, or e-mail.
