Hmm - thinking aloud again - why do they say each sculpt is hand painted - they at least said that for each figure until about 6 months ago..... in fact just checked Han Solo and says each sculpt is specifically hand painted... won't that be false advertising?

Not if a percentage has been touched by human hand.

Hmm doesn't seem right. Unless some paint is applied by hand it is a false statement. It's a clear statement that says specifically "hand painted" so while degree of effort can change it can't be just cause someone touched it by hand it has to be some paint work put in. (At least partial)

I am not saying they do hand painting / all I am saying is it's false advertising if what you are saying is the case.

What's the latest conspiracy theory in this thread today? That they resculpted the head everyone liked in order that bait and switch their customers? That the heads were all distorted in the mold? All heads were painted by dyslectic chipmunks?

You guys are acting like this is Drake 2.0. This figure is far from bad. Some of you guys are really nitpicking big-time. Try growing up with Mego's and original Star Wars 12" figures like I did and maybe you won't complain so much on likeness and quality. The hair is far from a 24.95 Jakks hair sculpt.

take a good look on their promotion picture again my friend, this one really worth 250 dollars.

but the final product worth nothing more than 200 imho.

This surely does not look like a 25 dollar figure. While I may not reorder cause I am still not digging the skin head one, but if it looks good in hand pics I will pull the trigger. However this surely is NOT a 25 dollar figure or even sculpt. I would pay 100 just for the accessories. So I am somewhere in between and with mixed feelings on this. But if one has to have a Tyler I guess this is good and probably only option cause customs are gonna charge a bomb.

I know Hot Toys aren't hand painted. Some finishing by hand, most probably.

It's obvious they are not, they produce thousands of figures in a matter of months, not to mention the fact that practically all of them look identical, anyone that owns hand made figures know that paint jobs on hand made figures never look identical. Nevertheless, people refuse to believe this, and think they are all hand painted, when they are actually printed on by machines.

i am not sure what the exact process is but hot toys always listed each sculpt is hand painted. may be they do the base paint as factory paint and detailing is done in batches - may be eyes, and some other aspects.

They don't use a base coat for anything, they use flesh colored PVC for head sculpts. The eyes are decals, same with freckles to in some instances, to make every paint job on each sculpt identical.

i am not an expert and no idea how its really done - just thinking aloud here. but i do know that most of their listings always mentioned each sculpt is hand painted.

That's a marketing technique they use, with all the heads in the background and Chinese workers sitting down painting them. They even say on the back of the box of some figures that they are painted by JC Hong.

It is false advertising, but Ebeneezer Jones is right, because some things are hand painted like making the DX01 shoes look dirty by dry brushing them and adding a black wash to the lime green hair on the DX11, to give it that olive green look. So technically they are hand painted as some parts are painted by hand.

Agreed on that falls way short of the promotion pics, it's good, but not better than a few of the many customs we have seen.

W bit ofns bummer for sure, great for the fact that official figures of these the are half decent actually got made.

Pretty reminiscent of the change from proto to production for some Hot Toys sculpts, IMO. Certainly, there is a drop-off. But I don't think it's so bad, or surprising even. As mentioned, this is a far freaking cry from something like Drake. But YMMV. I have my own standards, and from what I've seen this meets them. But if you want something looking exactly like that proto, I'm not sure there is a company out there at all that can deliver. You might want to get in Silent Surfer's queue now.

Please tell me that you did not pay $250 for those Megos when you were growing up...:)

I think it'd because the proto looked so good, that even the slightest change, is why people a lot of people are so disappointed with this. I know I wanted these figures because the protos just looked amazing and so I was drawn to them because of how nice they looked, not because I am a fan of the movie.

Like I said before Blitzway delivered a proto pefect production Rocky sculpt, hence why people are probably thinking they would do the same with this.

Their Rocky does look great, but I've also observed a dropoff from the prototype there. Admittedly, I'm only going on nice shots on the forum, and not in-hand observations. But that's also what we're doing here. Maybe there is more of a dropoff here, though.

Really? It must be very slight because I can't notice it, they totally messed up Marylin though, nothing like the proto. That being said, there should be a drop off from proto to product, especially if the proto is resin, which I am guessing in this case it was.

Its obvious to me there is a major drop off, the smirk sculpt looks cartoony, lacks the bone structure, like people have said it looks soft. I don't think it is a bad sculpt though.

I still think these re-taken shots of the figure by David Cheng at TNS are best I've seen so far, and based on these, I will definitely be be keeping my POs. I have gripes with some of the detailing on the clothes, however the head sculpt looks f--king phenomenal to me imo. The heads sculpt is a little softer, however as everyone who has been collecting for years knows, that is absolutely expected. Lots of other pics I've seen have either too much light, too much of a particular filter applied, or the damn flash on. How David took these pics is almost how I would take them with just about similar light, so I can almost guarantee, at least to myself that this is how the head sculpt looks. So again, based on these pics, I think the head sculpt is definitely HT quality, so I am extremely excited to receive this. Yay me. Lol. This is the best version of fight club figures you are ever going to get. Love it or leave it...literally.
