Re: Blitzway 1/6 Scale Hannibal Lecter

Found these too...

What I'm starting to assume as with all props there were more than one used for the film. Could be the scenes where it looks like the nostrils are painted on is because they were using the one with the slit cut out and had to paint the nostrils on to mimic the one used up top.
Which in turn would give it that weird effect that we are seeing.

So depending on the scene or which one you would consider "definitive", I'm leaning more towards the fully cut nostrils AND slit.

The main difference in the later mask is the more flat area around the mouth and nose where in Silence it didn’t have that.

Is that pic from Red Dragon? I haven't watched that one in forever. I need to watch it again soon.

I was just looking at these pics again, and it really does look like it was just the slit that is cut with the nostrils painted on.

So then I wonder why they did that? To give it the effect of the nostrils being cut out as well?

And if it's to achieve the illusion of it then wouldn't Andy's be the idealised version? Or would people want screen accurate just for the sake of being screen accurate?

I must say for something so simple it sure creates quite an optical illusion. 20190206_180422.jpeg20190206_180435.jpeg

Might have been something to do with timing in production. There were a number of masks explored.

I own this one, not perfect but it was sculpted by the maker of the original.

Maybe it was filled in to impact how Hopkins sounded while talking with it on.

Re: Blitzway 1/6 Scale Hannibal Lecter

Here is where it's at at the moment.

Andy was playing with some possible solutions to filling the mask.

But personally I think this looks great as is. It accomplishes what the illusion of the screen used mask set out to do on screen. received_247950516096774.jpegreceived_1171305559713269.jpegreceived_485066902314419.jpeg

Hey, folks.. I'm Andy :)

So yeah a little dilemma here. The issue I have is that in that scene ONLY, where he is lying on his back facing more upward, it has that weird appearance. But in every other screencap it sure looks like cut through nostril holes. And even if they AREN'T cut through, they're on there to look like that, clearly. So to me screen accurate for the sake of screen accurate seems odd, because it doesn't evoke the look, in my opinion, that you get during that whole scene where he wears it.

But.... here is my little test.

For the record Andy I am down for what you originally posted. If you come up with an add on-- ie remove able nostril cover cool, if not we'll I feel privileged to own what you produce. The mask does seem to change depending on what perspective is shown. My thing is the Blitzway mask falls short, period.

The man himself! Sorry I hope you didn't think I was making a thing out of this. The mask looks great, I was just shooting the **** about the screen mask, not trying to start a campaign for you to change yours

No, no, no... no problem! I love constructive criticism... without it i wouldn't have the mask looking like it does in the first place.

It truly is an odd thing the way it can look in various scenes. The point is i CAN make adjustments even this far along... but the question is SHOULD I... because right now it looks good... it evokes the look of the film... so dies that odd construction of the nasal holes later.

Niceee! now we're talkin! looking forward to see how you come up with this new update. Might end up ordering one for my straightjacket version.

IMHO, if it's truly screen accurate, then it will look like what we see in the movie. It will not make/destroy any illusion, doesn't evoke the look or whatever. If it's truly screen accurate then it will show exactly like we see in the movie.

Agreed. I'll have a full update shortly. I decided to just try and fill in the nostrils but with a slight indent. I don't think it has to look like a clear "film" per se.

Wonderful! will be waiting for your update, good sir!

Also maybe, just a suggestion, you know that paints can be sticky overtime, due to heat or many other factors.. will it be possible to have the parts inside of the mask, that actually touch/in contact with the figure's face to be covered with some protective materials? (like maybe a plastic sheet or thin layer of foam or something like that, i have limited knowledge on materials but you definitely know better).. Just a suggestion..

Inside of the mask will not be painted. Andy made mention of that pretty early in Production as to avoid paint rub on the face. [emoji6][emoji106]
