Re: Boromir Maquette

Looks like I missed out on all the excitement. I've been asking SS to at least give us a sneak peek of Boromir for month's and they wait for me to go on vacation before doing so. :lol

Personally, I'm having trouble seeing Sean Bean in the unpainted sculpt so I will be very curious to see the headsculpt painted. I also couldn't help but notice the open-mouthed sculpt which does not line up with the conceptual art, or the screencaps the maquette is based on. I'm still not convinced there will be an excl. edition, but clearly with the alternate headsculpt it has to be considered. Hopefully, if there is an excl. it will involve more than just a second head [with mouth open] as SS did something very similar with the Black Orc PF and it certainly wasn't one of the best LOTR excl. SS's ever come up with.

Re: Boromir Maquette

Yep it's early days but looking at the previous maquettes the unpainted sculpts likeness have all been pretty close but just not seeing it with this one.......but we will see.

Yeah have to agree with both of you (Woodsy & Red) regarding the likeness...does anyone know who did the sculpt? It may need to go to Trev for a re-sculpt. Speaking of Trev's re-sculpts...really looking forward to seeing how he did with Arwen...shouldn't have too much longer to wait now...pre-order before SDCC I should think.

SS did say we would see Arwen and Gimli before Boromir so I definitely think we should be seeing Arwen soon. Last year SS put Aragorn up for pre-order in mid-June and Gandalf three weeks later in the lead up to SDCC, and while I don't see SS doing something similar this year I can definitely see Arwen coming before SDCC.

Woods, see my own quote below from an earlier post for my own take / guess on the EX. All the maquettes have had EX versions so far, I don't see why Boromir won't follow suit.

I'm going to guess the open-mouth head sculpt is the EX...but I think a raised sword arm is included as well, from when he addresses the Gondorian soldiers after taking back Osgiliath and they are chanting "For Gondor!". Regular will be the closed mouth sculpt and lowered sword arm.

You're probably right Dino. I simply base my assumption on the fact that with every single maquette so far SS has produced conceptual artwork featuring duel images [including Aragorn which I don't have an image of] except for Boromir. That, plus that fact the Boromir base is easily the most elaborate to date still lead me to believe there may not be an excl. in this instance.....although financially speaking it doesn't make alot of sense not having an excl.

Re: Boromir Maquette

Yeah, it's a hard one to call.

An Exclusive version with a raised arm and open mouth head sculpt and a Regular with a lowered arm and a closed mouth head sculpt, would be awesome. The base is elaborate though and that could hike up the price. That being the case, an Exclusive could take it too far out of budget. I can't see SS setting the price of this Maquette higher than the price of a PF. But that is just my opinion and I could be wrong...if I am, I will be happy to be so.

I agree, I can't see SS attaching PF prices to 1/6 scale statues. Maquette prices at $50-$100 below that of comparable PF's seem about right to me and I'm not sure crossing over the $250 mark for a maquette would be a very good idea on SS's part.

The more I think about it, the more I think you guys are probably right concerning an excl. as a switch-out arm and headsculpt does make sense. Hopefully, if this is the case the closed-mouth headsculpt will look more to me like Sean Bean than the open-mouthed sculpt does. It seems to me it is more difficult for an artist to accurately capture a likeness when facial expressions are utilized, and it would be nice to have a back-up plan [ie a closed-mouth sculpt that more resembles Sean] should the open-mouthed version not turn out so well. Though, as I have stated before...it is much to early to judge the open-mouthed sculpt just yet.

Re: Boromir Maquette

I don't expect these to get to $300 for the most part unless its say a Balrog, Sauron, etc. Bigger maquettes basically. As far as this piece I would think it will be in the GTG/Gimli range of 250. It could hit something like $265 but I don't know. As far as Ex on this I would say switch out sculpt probably is gonna be the only thing.

You could be right Josh, have you any insider information on this? The head sculpt doesn't look as though it's the swop-out type, with the little magnet stump piece on the end.
I will be more than happy to be wrong on this :slap.

Anyone know who did the sculpt? :dunno

I really don't know squat. :lol Well, they would add the piece at the bottom towards the end or that could have been before they did.

No clue would love to know and we will when it comes out I suppose. :lol

Re: Boromir Maquette

Thanks Masterside! Tomorrow can't come soon enough. Looks great, and based on what we have seen, this will make an excellent addition to the line!

Re: Boromir Maquette

Looks like I'll be making my first and hopefully only SDCC order tomorrow. That's definitlely Boromir. If he has no exclusive, I can finally use my credit at BBTS...

Re: Boromir Maquette

Boromir already going up for po? Great! I will definately be ordering one, hopefully an exclusive. Thanks Masterside

Re: Boromir Maquette

Looking like we're gonna get Boromir! :rock I've got $100 in RP now to decide if I use them on him or not.

Re: Boromir Maquette

Here's a screen cap from the boromir video. I would be my life that its him.

Re: Boromir Maquette

The cross shape is the leather on the scabbard that attaches the scabbard to the belt, so this is from a side of the figure we haven't seen yet. I have to agree with you Josh that Boromir is next for us tomorrow for sure!

I am hoping that the price will be close to Gandalf given the amount of scenery that seems to be coming with this one.

Re: Boromir Maquette

When I saw that clip in the video I knew that this had to be it. Just way too similar and no cloth so it can't be a PF.

I think he'll be $250-275 probably.
