Looks like both Gunn and Paul won Emmy's tonight. As much as I love Walter White, I feel that McConaughey's performance on TD was equally good, so, I'm torn. However, I suppose since Cranston's already been recognized, what, two; three times, for that performance, that I'd probably have to root for McConaughey, in this case.

Second, the format of True Detective makes it more like a mini-series or special event, and just giving it to McConaughey because he did a good job in 12 episodes is lame. Cranston did a phenomenal job for 5 years, and his award is testament to that.

The Wire is incredible and I love it. But it wasn't the same quality through all five seasons. 2 and 5 weren't great. Breaking Bad was excellent from start to finish.

I couldn't agree more. Never saw what was so great about True Detective. It was OK. Nothing spesh. Breaking Bad was and probably always will be my favourite show.

Exactly. And the year that True Detective aired, BB didn't (right?)
Either way, that sole season of TT was MASTERFUL, and McConaughey was incredible.

He should've won. And this comes from a BB fan that owns every single season + the collectors edition complete season set.

Except you are rated on one episode, not an entire season or show. So with that in mind, McConaughey should have won.

Yes, actors submit one episode for consideration, but it's supposed to be indicative of their work that season. That's just simply a drawback to the format. Emmy voters can't be expected to watch an entire season of TV to vote. Movies are just movies, but with TV they can only submit one episode. It's not like they can submit all 12 hours of their work.

I read an article that said that Woody Harrelson did not submit an episode that featured his best acting, but an episode that featured more of McConaughey's best acting, so don't think for a second that Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul didn't also do the same thing, so Emmy voters got to see a lot more of Breaking Bad than they did True Detective.

Apart from all that, I still think Cranston did a better job, I'm no student of acting, but I felt Cranston ACTED much better. WW went through a whole range of emotions, and really grew even further as a character through that last season, and I can't say the same for McConaughey. He pretty much played the same character for all 12 eps, one just older than the other, and had one epiphany at the end of the series that changed him. Rust just didn't have the same growth or arc that Walter White did. Even with the time jump in BrBa, you can see HOW and why Walter White changed into that older version. As I said before, I didn't much care for True Detective, so maybe that change from into older Rust was explained more, but I don't remember McConaughey ACTING through that transition. Perhaps Emmy voters felt the same.

I'm happy that they all won! It's definitely my favorite drama. Ozymandias is the greatest episode of television that I've seen.

Unfortunately I never could get into the Wire. A lot of people recommended it to me, and I tried the first couple seasons, but didn't enjoy it.
