Bad news is Anakin's leg is broken. Good news is that I did get the seller to insure it for the full value and the seller did insure it.

I've pmed the seller on how to proceed with the claim but would like to keep abreast on how claims are made.

thanks,
James.

Help someone!

Man, whoever the shipping company was really put that package through hell :lol I think with insured items the seller has to contact the shipping company and file the claim... not positive on that, but that's what I recall from having to do it once a few years back.

It was USPS. :whip:whip

They MUST have beat the hell out it to get chips under the costume like that.

I think your best bet is to hit up the post office to find out how to process the claim.

What did you do to prove that the damage was their before you took it?

I see the box has a "security checked" sticker on it. Maybe they Xray'ed it and saw wires and decided to inspect it better and damaged it in the process???

I don't have this PF, but I have noticed a LOT of collectors getting them with broken legs; must be really prone to this? :dunno

Did you find the chips that would have come off of the damaged parts under the costume? I'm just having trouble figuring out how that could even happen, except at the factory. In any case, that part really isn't a big deal since you'd never have his costume open that much. Mine might be like that and I wouldn't know.

The leg is worse of course. I also have an Anakin with a broken leg, although in my case I knew it was broken and got a good deal because of it. Some epoxy glue fixed it right up.

With USPS, basically what you need to do is get the receipt and Insurance Form from the seller. That is, if you want to be the one going through this. Then, you'll need to bring the entire thing to the post office, including all packing materials (you'll probably want to pack it back up anyways). Depending on the post office, they are usually pretty good at responding to damage claims, but it could take a few months.

It took me one and a half years to be refunded for a broken Attakus Vader statue, but that was because the claims person at my local post office left on maternity leave, and never came back, so my claim was "lost" for a long time. Good luck!

I would say the only good thing about it is the break to his leg is likely easy to fix. So you could get your money back and still have a very displayable piece.

man.. that sucks.. There is nothing worst then expecting a nice piece in the mail and when you receive it its broken.. Open a claim with UPS...

considering the damage, its minor compare to what Anakin went through in EP3....ehehehhe

let me chime in here - I am the seller on this piece and can say without a doubt, that piece was in pristine condition when packed up and dropped off at the USPS.

As I told the buyer, this is my first time I've had to deal with a broken item of any size. I am frustrated to see that I have let a fellow collector down.

Glad it was insured as I would feel even worse if it showed up like that with no insurance.

That is the silver lining that insurance was purchased... and honestly the damage looks repairable so it can likely be salvaged as a display piece.

considering i'm on the other side of the world. I guess it'll have to be the seller who will be able to help me out with this :monkey2

Hey man. this is not a call out thread. Just want to get as much info as possible to get the claim done as painlessly as possible.
:peace

so if any of you have any experience on how to expedite things, please chime in.

thanks,
James.

Honestly after seeing how many anakins were damaged from shipping, I decided that insurance was a must for this piece even if it meant that i had to eat higher vat charges :monkey2

I just hope i don't have to wait months for it.

good luck on the insurance claim. I'm interested to know how much you get back, because my experience with filing claims has been not very positive. Which is why I try to ship the SS shipper box inside another box; SS shippers just aren't made for multiple trips.

i actually think that in this case its the dumbnuts that inspected it for security inspection that caused the problem.

when i opened the package the styrofoam box was no longer taped together. :horror
