So QMx just solicited this in their newsletter. Their justification for the price is that it's made in the US just like an actual filming model would be. Still having a hard time justifying it to my wallet.

Okay, I caved and bought this. After going to the BSG prop auction and even dogtags going for more than this piece, I figured it wasn't an outrageous price.

It doesn't come in a box, but in a grey plastic case - like they're trying to imitate the cases on the show. Mine was signed by Jamie Bamber and there's a sticker with his name on the outside of the box. Inside is a large plaque with his signature - this is 26 out of 500.

I really like this - the paint is very detailed, especially for something that comes off pretty much grey on the show.

The electronics are very sharp and bright - he has the moving red light in the front and blue exhaust in the rear. I kind of wish it had the scanning sound, but in space no one can hear you scan. There is no switch, you have to unplug it to turn it off. But there's a small plug a few inches from the base, so if you don't want the cord around it's not a problem. Once thing that's a bit offputting - there's just a groove on the bottom of the base for the cord - makes for easy access, but you have to adjust the cord so it sits right whenever you move it.

When BSG first appeared I didn't really care for the design of the cylon raider, I thought it was a bit cheesy, imitating the shape of the centurion helmet. But it really has grown on me and the smooth, almost organic design seems perfect now. I can't imagine going back to the original series SW inspired raiders.

And even though it's very smooth, there's a lot of detail, more than you see on the show.

I did a comparison with the studio scale efx X-wing. Of course there never were studio scale models of the raiders, they're all CG except for the 1:1 in the hangers. But this seems to be about the same scale as the x-wing. Remember Kara had to scrunch up to fit in it.

I'm really hoping they do a viper and a Galactica - but I'm afraid that the price will keep a lot of people away and other ships won't be forthcoming.

But if you want to buy one, use the link:

i'm gonna go cry in the corner now..

I posted once, but people made stupid comments so I deleted them.

Come on. You should put them back up. From what I can see in the background, you have a few of the same licenses I collect and the stuff looks pretty cool.

You really do need to show off that collection... I know I've seen glimpses off it over the years, but never its full glory!

BTW, Raider looks great... how does it feel? As it is it a really light piece, or does it feel more substantial?

It doesn't feel light at all. Since the ship's design is so economical I expected it not to have any heft. But it feels very solid.

Your pics look great Dave and it is certainly an amazing piece, I really love BSG and am actually contemplating getting this with my taxreturn...hmm. :D

And as others have said your collection looks to be pretty cool and the display cases you use look great as well, I hope you will reconsider. ;)

Cool, its nice when an expensive piece has a heft to it. This is bad to say, but I'm hopeful the aftermarket value will tank on these so I can afford one :lol I know that won't happen, but I can dream :lol

Congrats on the great piece, and really... share the collection, I won't make douchey comments :lecture

Very cool purchase Dave! :rock :rock And I agree with everyone else....show us some pics of your collection. :D Or at least show them to me. :naughty :D I won't tell anyone. ;)
