I was feeling somewhat nostalgic and had the sudden desire to revisit some of the Old Disney Horror movies from the 80's, specifically Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Watcher in the Woods. Disney+ doesn't have them, neither does Vudu or Amazon Prime. The best I could find were old secondhand DVD's for sale on Amazon. Why has Disney chosen to neglect or abandon these films?

It's been too long for me to actually remember whether or not these were genuinely good movies, but I'd love the option of actually watching them again. They probably wouldn't sell well enough for a disc release, but I'm sure they'd do well on a streaming service.

Just makes me wonder what else they've decided to deny people's access to.

I googled those films and it gave my computer a virus. [emoji38] jk

Those films were huge bombs, so that's probably why they're not available.
I remember Something Wicked This Way Comes was a big deal with the kids in my school, aside from that, I don't really know how successful it was. Besides, Disney has plenty of bombs that they haven't tried to make disappear, why give those 2 movies special treatment?

Is The Black Hole (movie) on Disney Plus?

Funny, last year I was feeling nostalgic for Watcher in the Woods because it was such a creepy movie to me when I was a kid and wanted my own kids to be able to experience it. I too wondered if it'd be any good today so I looked for it on streaming services and found nothing but then saw that you could watch the entire film on YouTube so that's what we did.

It was surprisingly still watchable and while not particularly "scary" per se the first half hour or so did still have some genuinely creepy bits that even made my youngest squirm. We enjoyed it overall so I was glad that I looked it up.

They will likely eventually make their way onto D+. If Black Cauldron can be on there in 4k...
Not sure about Song Of The South though I think that will need more than a Muppet Show like disclaimer at this point.

Growing up, The Watcher in the Woods had a reputation for being scarier than a Disney film ought to be. Eventually I caught it on TV and it was very creepy.

Around the same time kids would refer to The Exorcist as being the most terrifying thing - usually an older brother would've rented the video and let them watch it. However, I didn't get to see it until much later when I picked up a DVD. Preparing myself for the 'scariest thing ever' (lol), it was a huge disappointment. More comical than horrific.

I actually find movies like Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory much more disturbing. :horror

Forced myself to watch it during the great Molecule8 fiasco.

Never again.

Checking through the movie section here and seeing this thread, I went looking for The Watcher in the Woods to see if it still lived up to the old hype. I found it in my first 'go to' place for older films, and it was a little better quality than the Youtube copy. Yes, it still had that creepy atmosphere. But the wheels come off in the last act.

The actress who played the older sister looked familiar, but I couldn't place her until I checked IMDB. She was the nymphomaniac ice skater looking for sugar daddies in For Your Eyes Only. (I recently re-watched all the Bond movies).

I saw Something Wicked This Way Comes last year or before. Like The Watcher in the Woods, it's not a film I wanted to keep or have any inclination to watch again.
