Sorry, They've just ruined too many of the great old shows/films with idiotic remakes and updates.

Bewitched blew.
Land of the Lost had promise but got ultra stupid instead.
Batman. Don't get me started. Nicholson was the only highlight and the film should have been called "Joker". Even the suit wouldn't let Bats turn his head in shame.
Planet of the Apes. Despite Baker's great appliances, Burton turned a once great franchise into a heaping pile of dung to throw at fans.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Leave the classics alone.
Dark Shadows. Beetlejuice meets Twilight? It certainly doesn't look like the ol' series. My wife and I were big fans of the original and even enjoyed the Ben Cross rvival attempt. The preview for this Burton offering made us sick to our stomachs.
And this doesn't give much hope for the Kolchak film. :(

Well, if you prefer the classics, these new versions shouldn't take anything away from them. I like much of what Burton has done over his career. Not all of it. But I wouldn't expect source-accuracy with anything he touches. He's got a certain style and approach that you may or may not care for or understand.

I didn't see either of those Farrell movies, but Anchorman is one of my favorite all-time comedies, so. . .he gets a pass for any bad movies he makes in my book :D

I thought Alice in Wonderland was pretty "by the numbers" and forgettable, as far as Burton movies go. And it was a remake of sorts. I liked his update of the Chocolate Factory, though, and it was so completely different that I didn't think it was meant to replace the original in any way. Batman was a'aight, but even as a kid I never cared much for an overly armored Batman who couldn't move around very much and who murdered people without a second thought. . .I remember very little about POTA, except that Tim Roth did a great job.

I can't say I hate on these films as much as you do. There certainly are things I didn't really like about them. But I got exactly what I expected from Tim Burton.

That being said...I AM just about Tim Burtoned out.

Um you forgot about burtons masterpiece, mars attacks......lol and alice in wonderland sucked I didn't even finish the movie.as for bats the best batman movies have and always will be the nolan franchise.

With the exception of '89 Batman I'd agree with your Burton list.

His remakes are shat... I love his original films; but Apes, Alice and Charlie were garbage. I don't know how Dark Shadows will turn out, but making it a comedy seems like a dumb move, although I can't say a drama of it would be much better. Just seems like a very difficult project to translate into a film.

Ha!!
The only Burton movie I have really hated was POTA...
Don't care much about Alice though...
But pretty much everything else he's done is awesome IMO...
Charlie I actually is a much better movie than the original and closer to the source material... in fact Dahl hated the original :lol

Big Fish is awesome, so is Sleepy Hollow... while I agree that Burton is at his best with original stuff, some of his adaptations are really good.

As for why Farrell is along Burton in this thread... well... I have no clue... :dunno

Ed Wood, Ed Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure are all good to great films IMO. And Nightmare Before Christmas is also his baby, and is awesome. That makes up for the crummy remakes.

Truthfully, I've always found Nightmare... boring. I think the visuals and characters are great, I just don't like the movie.
Most Burton movies I either like well enough, like Ed Wood, or are movies that I get why people really like, they just never did much for me like Batman, Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice. Really, the only Burton movie I legitimately love is Big Fish.

Gonna obviously disagree with you about Batman and Batman Returns (especially Batman) there Iron Man but I can agree with a majority of your list. I see where you're coming from being a Planet of the Apes fan, the original Heston cannot be touched (though the recent Rises film was pretty damn good) and that excuse of a remake was awful. It's odd though because, take away Burton's name and you can hardly tell it's "one of his" films.

But yeaaah, Batman, as soon as I saw that you listed that I wanted to kill yah. Other than that I agree.

Oh and I like Ferrel too, in doses.

Well, you can't go into these things expecting the dynamism and excitement of, say, a Morrissey concert. Or of course you will be let down.

If the characters start tossing chrysanthemums about, and sashaying around (even more then usual), then we'd be on to something.

I've never been a fan of Burton's work, that's not to say it's bad, it's just not my cup of tea.

Will Ferrell on the other hand can be a hit or miss, he has some great films here and there. Never saw Land of the Lost, so I can't comment on Will Ferrell and remakes.
