I can and have sat through Anchorman with a straight face. Will Ferrell is repulsively unamusing. Same goes for Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey. Robin Williams is up there, too.

well you're just a hater dude, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey? I know they have sucked lately, But, These two Shall Never be compared to Adam Sandler Or Will Ferrell, and I dont Even hate Will Ferrell,I love some of his movies,
Stranger than Fiction was amazing

The best way for me to explain it is that I despise unrealistic comedy, where everything is way too far-fetched and ridiculous, and where simply raising your voice/yelling is supposed to be funny. Robin Williams is probably the least offender of those, but I still can't stand him. Now, Mrs. Doubtfire was pretty funny at times, but still ridiculous. But I can handle that.

Not really... Big Fish is one of Burton's finest movies.
And Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd are really good IMO...
And I personally like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a lot...

Planet of the Apes definitely had its faults (still loved it visually), but I agree totally with all of the above.

Well, yeah. Big Fish is good. And so is Sweeny. But you can point to a moment when things started failing, and that was after Planet. He did end up making a few things here and there. But once he started with the remakes, re-adaptations, whatever....those were his worst. I don't hate Charlie. But I don't care for it. Corpse was eh. And Alice was beyond awful.

He's had some great ones...Edward Scissorhands,Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Big Fish was Good, Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare before Christmas, sweeney todd...all good to me...but when Burton misses the mark it's big...Charlie was a letdown...I just love the Gene wilder version so much more...POTA was his worst film to me and one of the biggest let downs for me ever....I will never watch that one again...once was enough...

Actually Charlie and the Chocolate Factory IS closer to the book than the original movie... so no, it's not a remake... it even incorporates elements from the book sequel...

Yes it was closer to the book...But no way in hell was it better than the Wilder version

I enjoy Burton and Ferrell movies. Why? Because I watch the movies with no expectations and just want to be entertained, which I am every time. I don't read into things and expect masterpieces.

good post...They both had some good stuff as well as bad...My favorite Ferrell is Old School...I liked Land of the Lost too...it was funny in its own way and I was laughing a bit..I watched the old TV show because I liked Dinos...

You know, it's funny because originally the movie bombed and most people didn't care for it... but after being shown on TV every year it kind of became a "staple" for kids movies... besides I find Charlie very annoying, and he's not supposed to be like that...
And the songs are cringe-worthy...

Look, I get why people are fond of the movie... but personally I think Burton's is a better movie and has a much better script, acting and relatable characters... just my opinion though.

I saw it in the Movies...Plus I did like the fact that the older version was more like a musical...in Charlie only the oompas sang...I thought simpler was better...I thought the rest of the kids were annoying...Charlie was for a better word say confused and not very worldly and he gave back the Gobbstopper...The CGI in the newer version bothered me a little too...Lots of film for me anyway means alot because I was younger ...The Wonka character in the first film although crazy(they are in both films) did not bother me as much as the Depp Wonka...I wanted to smack him a couple of times and yell "snap out of it!"...LOL..Just IMHO of course

To each his own I guess!

:duff!

Anyway, the only thing that sucks is this thread!
:panic:

I would say Burton is definitely batting over .500. Even his worst movies are watchable and have their strong points. The only one I'll never watch again is Alice, that had no redeeming value to me. But I do like his style and more often than not his movies are good, IMO.

Ferrell is hit or miss. Some of his stuff is stupid, but a movie like Anchorman is comedy gold. I really liked Land of the Lost though. Maybe because of Danny McBride, but I laughed a lot through that movie. It was a movie based off a terrible TV show that didn't take itself seriously.
