That's how the internet works. Things like this happen more often than people care to admit, but when one instance gets media coverage, the entire world is goes all "This is an outrage! We have to raise money for that one person that was affected!" and because donations are open to everyone, way more money will be raised than needed (picture the billions of people in the world, and imagine just a fracion of those donating $1 -- even with that, she'll live like a queen).
I don't have anything against this woman, of course. It's horrible what happened to her and I wish kids like this could be disciplined appropriately (teachers can't even touch troublemakers anymore), but this whole thing should've been better-organized. Maybe set a cap for the donation amount. Seeing as that didn't happen, whatever's left should be given to similar causes.
