That's how the internet works. Things like this happen more often than people care to admit, but when one instance gets media coverage, the entire world is goes all "This is an outrage! We have to raise money for that one person that was affected!" and because donations are open to everyone, way more money will be raised than needed (picture the billions of people in the world, and imagine just a fracion of those donating $1 -- even with that, she'll live like a queen).
I don't have anything against this woman, of course. It's horrible what happened to her and I wish kids like this could be disciplined appropriately (teachers can't even touch troublemakers anymore), but this whole thing should've been better-organized. Maybe set a cap for the donation amount. Seeing as that didn't happen, whatever's left should be given to similar causes.

Look at all the money that was collected for 9/11? They are still fighting over that money. Some victims relatives became multi-millionaires from the donations, yet people are murdered or killed in plane crashes all the time and all their families get are funeral bills.

I'm old enough to remember the big wooden paddle in the principal's office. You kept your ____ in check back then.

The internet is a double-edged sword.

Obvious observation of the week™

In all seriousness, I'm not so sure donating money to fund her vacation was even the right thing to do. Random people from across the world shouldn't take part because then you'll end up getting way too much money pooled for one person. If anything, those kids should've paid for it themselves (or their parents; they deserve just as much of the blame, if not more). Case closed.

Someone started it locally I think and it just went from there. It was posted all over Facebook and the youtube link had it there too. It just struck a nerve with people. Of course the taxman will take a big chunk of it and she'll have a nice nest egg for her retirement. School retirements and benefits suck for classified employees, so I'm sure she can use it.

Well, she wouldn't have been on that school bus if she didn't need the money. I don't have a problem with her getting all that money from the vacation fundraiser. It ended up being a lot more than it needed to be, but I figure it's a stroke of good luck for someone who had it coming to them. Losing her son to suicide and dealing with these jerk kids, it's nice to see her being able to retire and probably never have to worry about money again. Those kids should pay dearly, though.

she lost her son to suicide? I didn't know that :(

Agreed. Their folks probably gave them a slap on the wrist at best; no reason why they should suddenly become good parents and actually discipline the brats.

She did. What's even worse is that the kids on the bus were saying that her family probably killed themselves so they wouldn't have to look at her anymore.

that is so sad, I am really glad she got money to at least enjoy a vacation :monkey2

Most they got from the parents was probably yelled at because THEY got embarressed by the whole thing.

They got suspended for a year. Big deal, they get to take the year online or something. They won't miss a thing. And 50 hours community service in a nursing home. I wouldn't trust those little ____s around my grandma!

Any black mark on their permanent record? Not that it probably means too much to them, seeing as they're not the type of kids headed for a future where trivial things like academics matter, but still...

I dont hope they get physically harmed or anything,

but I do hope they at least got scared, I hope they at least got some backlash

I have no idea, it should, and would probably depend on how they act the rest of the years they're in school. They might take it off later.

Future employers probably don't go back as far as junior high for records. I'm sure in 6 or 8 years, no one will remember it.

I do. If I had talked to anyone that way, I would've had my ass beat with a switch. That's the problem with all of this hippie dippie bull____ today. If someone hits or corrects their child, it's abuse. I'm not saying beat your kid half to death every night after you come home, but I think that our PC society is making a very bad impact.

People can no longer slap their kids when they get out of line because it's branded "abuse." In this day and age, the little ____ers have no respect for anyone because of it, and then these ____ty little brats grow up to be equally ____ty adults.

I mean I hate them for being such A__holes, but I dont want someone to beat them up because then they become bitter and it makes things worst, they need to understand that being a Huge __hole is not a good thing, a beating might do it, but I hope they got scare crapless, I hear they got death threats?

:exactly::goodpost: I feel the exact same way.

Last time I checked, it is perfectly legal to smack your kid in a domestic setting in the USA.

There's no legal restriction on taking out the good old trusty leather belt.

Wrong. They're animals, and like animals, they need to be broken before they can be fixed.

There is. Here in CA, it's two medium swats on the butt. Anything harder/more is child abuse. Raise that belt to your child and you get a bright orange jumpsuit and you both become wards of the state.
