That is the bummer about satellite is if you want a lot of channels and the HD service it costs a lot more. I have digital cable with HD and highspeed and that comes to about $120, to just do satellite (no internet) is about $120.

It's almost $200 out here were I'm at for all three services.

I have HD through Directv and I love it. I have about 60 HD channels, they are awesome, and I run it through the HDMI cable. I love and would not change to cable.

I paid $60 a month for my Dish Network service on 4 tv's with a dvr on 2 of them and hd in my living room. Cable couldn't come within $30 of that price for less channels and a worse picture even.

Cable is a joke and yesterdays technology IMO.

No BS taxes and government fees on Dish service either. Suck it government!!!

I have Direct Tv. Love it. Great HD package as well. Cable sucks IMO.

One thing to keep in mind is that there are basically two major satellite companies for most of the country, so their offerings and service are fairly uniform. Cable on the other hand, is provided by dozens of companies, from the largest multi-system owners like Comcast and Time Warner, all the way down to privately owned "Mom and Pop" systems (very few left), so your experience can be greatly affected by who your cable operator is. If you're lucky enough to have one of the major carriers, I guarantee you they are using or installing the latest technology, have great picture quality and are adding HD channels every day! If you don't have a major cable operator, then you may still be on "yesterday's technology", but in general, most of the country doesn't have that problem.

I just got a message on my from Directv saying that as of April 15th you will no longer be able to record and keep you payperview movies. They will only be available for viewing for 24 hours after you purchase. I dont do PPV movies, but I think that is ^^^^in lame:monkey4

That is pretty lame. I never buy PPV movies so I don't record them, but that is rather lame.

Haven't read the whole thread. But with Satellite, the signal can get messed up in WIND, LIGHTNING STORMS, SOLAR FLARES, RAIN, ETC...anything that messes with the atmosphere. So I would go with cable, then it's just earthquakes and power outages...

I have had very few problems with mine and it's usually only in a BAD downpour of rain and it only lasts a few min max.

I personally don't have satellite, but that's what I heard from family that have it. BUT then again, they live in nebraska, so their weather is ALL messed up....

Yeah, weather can be a factor for sure. I mean I know snow build up in large amounts can mess up a dish too, but I live in Va and while we get some snow here and there we don't stay burried in it. I have had constant winds of 60+ before those and that didn't casue any issues. For me it's mostly HEAVY rain.

When you compare outages from both I had MANY more outages from cable then I ever had from Dish. Not to mention the outages lasted hours with cable not 2-3 minutes like with dish.

whichever service offers hd in 1080i or 1080p, assuming your tv is set up to receive those.
