It's a WW2 Entrenching Tool (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrenching_tool). It was standard issue for soldiers to have these in order to... dig trenches. It is awesome that this is part of his gear considering this is a WW2 cap.

I'm sure I read someone mentioning it can come off but even if it can't, I can't imagine it being that hard a mod to get the accessories off

Don't get me wrong, I love the belt. But I would definitely like to instantly update this statue by removing the shovel (doesn't even need to be the entire belt) and maybe a custom hand with a newer m4!
