Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Just realized...

when Fury first meets with Pierce at the beginning, Pierce says Ironman has to show up at his daughters birthday party... The daughter isnt gonna have a dad at the party :'(

I thought he said niece...oh well, minor detail.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I just saw it and found it very enjoyable. I wasn't bothered with the "where is IM, Thor, etc" questions but I didn't like the moment where Cap completely surrenders to WS and nearly gets beaten to death. It just seemed stupid and overly (as well as pointlessly) dramatic. Why couldn't he have been more defensive in his fighting while also engaging in dialogue to trigger the memories? It may be minor but it did detract from the movie for me and it's my only complaint. On the positive side, similar to others, I found the action, tone, and performances to be very good and it does rank as one of the best MCU movies.

I read the Winter Soldier by Brubaker (great read) right before the movie...that scene is similar to how it actually happened in the comic, so I thought it was ok.

I purposely avoided reading it, but I'm definitely going to check it out now.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I also find it far more plausible that Sam Wilson can use the wing suit with military training in para-rescue instead of a limited background in crushed velvet suits. Makes sense to give these guys a background in combat if you expect them to do well in combat.
On the other hand, we've got a billionaire playboy industrialist instantly becoming a fighting bad-ass just because he built a fancy robot suit, and no one blinks an eye. The audience could buy into anything the filmmakers try to sell. But, it would take time and care, and it is just easier and quicker to turn all these characters into military guys. So, I get it. But Hawkeye still bothers the **** out of me. What a pale shadow of what he is in the 616-verse. I just hope they start giving him a bit more of that personality in Avengers 2.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Idk Kara, every day people in the USA have more weapons and ammunition than some countries military. :lol

We're more military than you might think.

We all have a little bit of Falcon in us. :lol

That's interesting, thanks for the insight. I guess I just didn't like the way it was handled and I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill.

If you consider that the entire film is about Steve (a) realizing he's lost all the people he once knew (b) struggling to find a purpose and (c) can't trust anyone it's a no brainer when confronted with the prospect of a long lost best friend returning only to want to kill him that he should feel a bit of resignation. Especially since his mission was over. I think it was the perfect thing to do for the character. And in a way his final act to convince Bucky to snap out of it. "I'm with you till the end of the line"

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

My impression was that it really all came down to the relationship between him and Bucky. That flashback to when they were at Steve's apartment after his mom's death really summed it up. That was his best friend, the person he cared most for following his parents' death. And he was willing to die just on the hope that Bucky might still be in there. It made sense to me, as well. And I do recall a parallel in the comic.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I'm hoping Whedon lives up to his word and makes Hawkeye into a real boy in A2.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Man I was never a CA fan, but after this movie, I want to start reading his stuff, where should I begin? Should I start with TWS arc?

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

If you haven't read winter soldier your in for a good time. Brubakers run on cap was definitely time well spent.

Everything Brubaker is time well spent.:) Once you read his work, you realize the influence his comics have on a lot of the TDK Trilogy with his Gotham Central, and now of course WS. TDK Trilogy has other comic influences, but a good portion of it is very much Gotham Central.

Winter Soldier is probably the best Marvel Comic story arc in my opinion. Its really amazing. Its very cinematic and the dialogue is great. But you have to read more than just Winter Soldier. It eventually leads you into Civil War, and then other runs of Captain America. Starting with Winter Soldier is a good place, but you should continue past it to really get the full story of all the characters.

Also Brubaker's Daredevil is really amazing and his Uncanny X-Men. And his non-superhero stuff is also some of his best work, like Fatale, Criminal, and his new Velvet.

So those who haven't, I HIGHLY recommend Winter Soldier and then continue his Cap run until the end.

Just keep in-mind, WS comic is not the same as the WS movie. There are some major differences. Neither is right or wrong. The comic stands alone, and the movie should stand alone. Don't put them together thinking the comic and movie should be exactly the same. It was never meant to be.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Mark Millar and Bryan hitch's ultimates run has a pretty ****ing bad ass cap

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Go back to the 1970's with the Shield super agents, then into the national force issues and you will see a lot of recurring themes done later.
