Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

The tone is awesome, but most of their recent trailers have had serious tone but then comedy heavy movies, so i wouldn't put any stake in the tone just yet.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I was against the whole Winter Soldier concept myself before reading those great comics. It still bugs me that the few things that were ever sacred about comics have been tossed away piece by piece over the years, but this story was done very well.

No offence intended Kara, but you tend to sound like part of the old guard who doesn't like change or modernisation with characters.

I can't say i'm 100% against that as i want Rich Rider back as Nova and would eventually like Peter back as spidey but sometimes updating works wonders, like with Agent Venom, it re-invigorated the character

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

This looks good. I liked Captain America in the Avengers and after seeing that I reappraised his debut film and enjoyed it on second viewing. Looking forward to this one now.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I can't go into detail without providing spoilers, but long time comic fans will know that there were certain constants in comics that were not messed around with. Not just because old things are better than new things, but because they are really important to the development and motivations of certain characters or stories. When you go around tossing those things away, or heavily changing them for the purpose of boosting comic sales, then there are consequences. If you say, "well, Superman could have been molested as a child, and repressed those memories. Could make for a great story!" Then you may well end up with a good story, but. . .should it be done, considering what it would mean?

Fortunately, the most important of these events hasn't been retconned out yet or made meaningless, to my knowledge. . .

the death of Uncle Ben, without which Spider-Man loses his primary motivation to exist

But if you would be happy with that happening if the story were told well, then I'm sure you wouldn't be alone. . .

And don't worry, Parker will return as Spidey. If Nova were an A- or even B-lister, I'm sure the original Nova, whoever he is, would also return.

It's quite the opposite. He doesn't want to see the essence of the character sacrificed because some Hollywood idiot wants to put his personal stamp on a piece... as is the case with ASM.

That event was retconned out of SM1 with SM3! :lol

I'm sorry but i got a glimpse of Guardians in that leaked trailer and now that's all i wanna see. The action looks good in this, and the first Cap was good, it just doesn't have the big spectacle feel to me, not like Thor had. I'm sure this will be great and i'll enjoy it but i'm not as excited for it as i am Thor TDW or GOTG

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Looks great. Hopefully it delivers the movie it is advertised to be unlike IM3.

Another thing ADHD kids and fairweather fans don't get is the fact that "updating" sometimes hides a writer or creative teams lack of skill at using the character effectively.

Most of the great writers and creative teams throughout the history of comics can shake up a characters life without altering their core and thus make changes or progression to the "character" which is what the story should evolve around.

Grandstand changes "just for change" are generally just a piss poor attempt to get idiots to look at the flash (*ahem new ASM costime ahem*) so that they don't realize theres nothing else beyond a small surface of "shiny" going on. If you don't have a skillful storyteller, (such as Kara was talking about with Brubaker) then an astute observer is going to see the illusion for the trick it is, while the dip****s will continue to crow about how keen the Emperor's new clothes are.

So you see, its not so much a case of "old guard vs new breed", its discerning people wanting substance (Kara) vs shallow thinkers easily distracted by a flash bang and sleight of hand(the type of person who would change their screen name to the "latest" thing that catches their fancy).

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Looks great. No gripes once so ever.

Rogers/Cap has been my favorite part of these Marvel films, this third one looks even better.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier
