The studio only gets around 50% of the profits. There's even an interview with Matt Damon explaining it.
I saw that clip. Where he talks about how non-existent physical media rental and purchase sales now require movies to make double what they once needed to. Plus due to the price of tickets a lot of people only go to "event" movies now which encourages studios to lean even further into lowest common denominator spectacle than ever before.

This movie cost a bundle. Some YouTubers "with inside knowledge" report the original budget nearly doubled with the reshoots and all the changes. So the budget just for the movie, without marketing, could be in the $360mil range. The reported $180mil was the initial filming budget. And with Marketing that could balloon to well over $400mil. Disney will lie like usual. Remember this movie was delayed from its original date of May 2024 due to all the problems.

Don't know how people still don't understand why it's said a movie has to do 3x it's FULL budget (including the undisclosed marketing budget) to be considered profitable. Making 2x just barely is the break even point. The numbers reported are Gross, not Net. The studio only gets around 50% of the profits. There's even an interview with Matt Damon explaining it. So this movie needs like $800mil just to break even.

I think the more likely and logical question is, how much money will this movie LOSE for Disney..

Disney can't lie about how much money put made or lost. It's a publicly traded company. If they did that, they'd be subject to massive SEC fines.
If they had a choice, none of these studios would release jack ****. Just like Netflix doesn't. Just like AEW doesn't. Just like Trump doesn't. Private companies keep their finances private.
But publicly owned companies are legally obligated to reveal accurate profits and losses publicly to all shareholders. That's what Enron did not do, and why that was such a big deal.
All I'm saying is, right now, before the official earnings are out, we do not actual know if BNW made a profit or not. Initial box office receipts are good, BUT until the shareholder reports, we just won't know.

Why did they reshoot the movie so much? Did that diamond back chick really stir things up thst much? Was the original story so offensive or whatever that they needed to spend that much money

Yup.

It's called creative book keeping. They make up legal BS. They employ lots of people that know how to make it legit.

One just needs to do some research. I'm not looking into it again. But one example I remember is Disney sold the rights for streaming one of its own movies to D+. And included it in the profits. A division of its own company. They sold it to themselves and used one side as profit and the payment as an expense.

If I remember right this was one of the things Chapek was claimed to be doing and why he was fired as CEO.

And that kind of proves my point. He did something shady and was fired. Trust me, as a Disney stockholder, I can assure you we were all pretty pissed with him once that BS came to light.

Must have been a number of things. I've heard Disney got cold feet with the political allegory, and also this movie and Thunderbolts were supposed to release in reverse order (same shuffle that hobbled No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness) so then when the schedule changes the stories and consequences had to change.

You can see bits and pieces of other versions. Sabra is wearing an MCU costume under a jacket in one scene. BTS photos exist of Sam and Betty Ross at a funeral (gee, I wonder who). McDonalds made happy meal toys of Serpent Society characters in actual costumes.

I really hope somebody leaks an old script, or at least a summary. This is the stuff I am dying to know.

This movie definitely left me with the feeling that the Serpent Society will be back. Marvel made the right choice by editing Sabra the way they did. The black and blue jacket she had on at one point struck me probably having been part of her hero look. I wish D-Man had gotten a costume.

So was this D-Man you're referring to the one Special Forces guy that Sam asked to have the pills analyzed? You mentioned him in a previous post and I had no idea who you were talking about lol.
